Everyone knows the Cinderella story, or at least the Disney version. Some may even know the story by the brothers Grimm. Now I like fairy tales, but I'd never fallen in love with one until I saw Ever After with Drew Barrymore.
Few movies manage to truly transport me into their world. But from the very start, Ever After had me captivated. The world of little Danielle became mine. What did it? The location was perfect for the farm. The costumes were superb. The dialogue coach did an incredible job. And all of the actors were very Renaissance to me.
The script managed to turn an unbelievable fairy tale into a story that is now very much real. Forget pumpkins and mice. This Ella of the Cinders slept with the book Utopia by her side, mingled with the other servants on the estate, and managed to befriend and eventually enlist the help of none other than Leonardo Da Vinci - a far cry from a handful of singing, dancing mice. It took more than a dance and a fancy dress to make this Prince Charming - Or Prince Henry, as the case may be - fall in love with our Cinderella. She did it with her wit, her charm, her poise, and her intellect that was way ahead of its time. Wicked stepmother? Indeed. Wicked stepsisters? Well, one of them. A fantastical creation that was masterfully crafted, this new Cinderella set the new standard for modern fairy tales.
As I've already mentioned, the characters in this version of the Cinderella story are very real. Drew Barrymore was the perfect choice for the lead role. Her supporting cast was well chosen, and we see more than just the one-dimensional personalities of the old story. Bravo to the cast and the casting director.
A true romantic at heart, I must admit that I'm a sucker for a good love story. But Ever After is more than just a flimsy script and a few cutesy moments. There is real drama and real emotion, real conflict and real talent to be seen. This is more than just another attempt to remake a classic story.
I recommend this movie to anyone else who is a romantic at heart. Ever After would be especially good for winding down after a long week with the person you love. So cuddle up on the sofa and see for yourself. I hope you agree.

Can I just say this is a great way in telling a wonderful story of Cinderella. It has romance, laughter, fun and good acting by Drew Barrymore and Dougray Scott, it was just so romantic you can never go wrong with this movie..
Get your girlfriends and popcorn and watch and enjoy a good movie to let lose to and fantasize what could be.... ENJOY

There are few movies that I can watch multiple times, and Ever After is one of them. I don't think I can even count how many times I have seen this wonderful film. It has everything a romantic could hope to see in a film: love, conflict, heroism, redemption, justice, humor, and many more wonderful qualities. If you are looking for a feel-good movie with heart and conviction, Ever After is the one for you.

This is probably my favorite take on cinderella - It comes with no fancy balls, Glass slipers, and deffinetly there arn't any fairy God mothers here!! Angelica Houston plays the most evil, Evil stepmother in the history of movie making... The only this left is to watch it and see if there Tuely is a happily ever after...

I enjoyed this movie. We've all seen the classic Disney story of Cinderella, but Ever After puts a new twist to it. It's funny, and heartwarming at the same time. Definately on my "Must See" list.

I watched, 'Ever After' on video. I feel this has been a very overlooked movie.
The casting of this movie was quite well done. Not to mention the costume designs in every area of this movie were elegant, superb.
Some of the films' location shots are just beautiful.
This is not the traditional Cinderella story we may be used to, however, it holds its own throughout the entire movie.

In this version of Cinderella, the young orphan is a real life girl named Danielle. Her Fairy Godmother? HE actually is a famous artist! The story is well told and makes you wonder if there really WAS a Cinderella! It is a movie for the young girl in all of us!

Super to watch over & over again. I couldn't afford cable for 5 years & only bought movies during that time. It was great to watch something with my girls. Quality mom & daughter time together. Little girls need hope & dreams. They need to know that there are happy endings! Real life can be such a downer. You need inspiration & hope. This movie gives it to you!

I love this movie. I have a hard time to get my husband to watch it but, She starts out with her father and then she looses him, then she gains a Stepmother and sisters. But she is happy with what she has. She has a friend that lives close by that is now a servant to. Her stepmother sells one of the family's servants for the taxes and she Dresses up as a Dutchess and goes after him and finds the prince again in one day but he does not recenize her and he is intrigued by her and must know who she is. This movie is a wonderful twist to the old Cinderella. And a wonderful love story.

I have a high stress job as an attorney and I am reading regulations, writing briefs and staying on top of the world generally. I subscribe to several magazines and I combine the must reads with the mindless but interesting reads--from Time to People. There are times when I just need to have a good movie around that I know by heart but love to watch anyway along the genre of Sleepless in Seattle, You've got mail etc. Whenever I find Ever After on the television it is now generally on a commercial station, parts cut out and commercial so I bought it for my own entertainment. I have serious movies and like to watch them also, as I belong to Netflix, but sometimes I just need to turn off my mind and watch an enjoyable fairy tale plus the male lead is not bad to look at either and Drew is very good as Cinderella. I love the ending and what the woman states for the final sentence of the movie--you would have to see the whole movie as I won't tell you. This is not a movie for elitist's that would dismiss this as trivial, definitely a chic flick and I always love a happy ending.

The movie was excellent. The Cinderella story was told with heart. I have seen it in the past, but they do not replay it nearly often enough on television. I had a hard time finding it in stores, so knew I would have no problems locating the movie on Ebay!!

Ever After MovieI bought this as a gift for my friend because she recommended it. The movie was very emotional and I was drawn into it. The DVD while not new, was still a very good quality DVD. The reason why I rated it only "good" is because the cover isn't as pretty as the wedding cover, and I knew it was a different cover from the wedding one, but I was still a little dissapointed.

Had to Buy thisI just had to buy this movie because I rent it all the time. No matter how many times I see it, it never fails to move me. Drew Barrymore is wonderful in this movie and Dougray Scott is great, too! I especially love Danielle's friend Gustav and Da Vinci. Oh! and I cant forget the one stepsister who was nice to Danielle. Overall and great movie!

I love this movie!I am not a huge fan of Drew Barrymore, but I think she does a great job in this movie! I love the sweet story, it is a fun twist on an old story. I think it is funny, and romantic! Angelica Houston makes an amazingly horrid step mother! She is fantastic! It helps that the prince is handsome, and I love the way he looks at Danielle. It is one of my all time favorites!
