Enjoyable CD With Goodman in Large and Small Settings
Review created: 10/22/06(updated 10/22/06)
The Very Best of Benny Goodman is an enjoyable CD on which you will hear both Benny Goodman and His Orchestra and the Benny Goodman Quartet. It features excellent 1930s jazz recordings with good sound quality. If you prefer the larger sound of big band more than the intimate playing of quartets, you may want to look into other Goodman CDs, especially Benny Goodman Swingsation and Sing, Sing, Sing.
However, this is a great CD for fans of jazz and excellent clarinet-playing. You'll hear Lionel Hampton on vibraphone featured prominently on several tracks, which is always a treat. The quartet also includes Gene Krupa on drums and Teddy Wilson on piano.
