Quentin's debut is marvelous in its legend and indie legacy. The shots, homages, and overall style are what make the film a classic. But how about the actual story itself? The out of chronological order technique used (eh, hm Tarantino trademark) as well as the fact that the actual robbery is never shown gives a worn out genre a pump of steroids. The movie is drenched in cult film, comic, and music references (eh, hm another Tarantino trademark) that give the film a light-hearted feel while contrasting with the graphic story. Its a truly brilliant debut.

Short and sweet.

The film that launched the career of a master filmmaker

"Reservoir Dogs" is Quentin Tarantino's first official film (he'd been making student films & shorts for a while before it was released). It was screened at the 1992 Sundance Film Festival to amazing critical acclaim, and it's an undeniable fact that it launched Tarantino's brilliant career in filmmaking. Harvey Keitel, otherwise known as Mr. White, may be largely attributed for the making of this movie - he read Tarantino's screenplay, through Lawrence Bender (producer), and absolutely loved it. That marks the birth of "Reservoir Dogs."
Nothing can be said about this spectacular film that hasn't been said already. The ensemble cast is magnificent, with Keitel, Michael Madsen, and Steve Buscemi giving especially remarkable performances. Tarantino as the hilarious Mr. Brown is an absolute delight to watch. Tarantino's writing and directing are, as usual, ridiculously superb. The movie itself is hysterical, tragic, insightful, suspenseful, mysterious, provocative. In simpler words, it's a classic.
If you have yet to watch this breakthrough whirlwind of a movie, you will not regret your purchase. If you're simply buying it because you've already fallen in love with it, then you know how it feels, and you won't hesitate for a minute.
Recommended for all movie buffs anywhere and everywhere. A masterpiece!

A Diamond heist gone bad ! Outstanding debut film!

Tarantino's debut movie is cult viewing. The film benefits from a quality cast of actors with Harvey Keitel & Steve Buscemi being particularly impressive as Mr White & Mr Pink. The script is witty and engaging throughout. I'd never previously seen such a seemingly disjointed movie come together so perfectly as in Reservoir Dogs. I especially enjoyed the way the resevoir dogs turn on each other in order to try and uncover who the "rat" is after their failed diamond heist. Furthermore, the use of colour code names and cool suits & shades is another inspired choice by Tarantino. The film is both violent, coarse and darkly humourous - a perfect mix. The movie soundtrack is also particularly impressive. The highlight would have to be Mr Blonde dancing to the ditty of "Stuck in the middle with you", prior to engaging in ritual torture. This is of course the movie's most controversial episode with Michael Madsen hacking off the cop's ear, humiliating him and threatening to set him alight. A big fuss over nothing was made over this and its release on video was delayed as a result. They only succeeded in further enhancing the film's appeal. If your yet to see this film then you're in for a treat, I remember emerging from the cinema on pure adrenaline. The dvd special features cupboard is worryingly bare. Why only a trailer and Tarantino intro for such a very special movie? I can't let that trivial detail detract from this film's excellence - maximum marks for this masterpiece.

This movie is amazing, but you have to watch it more than once to truly appreciate it. The director Tarantino, has made a masterpiece as his first film, and if you like this movie, also look into getting Pulp Fiction, also by Tarantino.

One of the best independent movies

This is one of the best independent movies ever made and Quentin Tarantino's first movie. All of the actors are pretty good especially Harvey Keitel and Tim Roth. The best part of the movie is it's humor style, camera angles and dialogue. The only dislike part it's sometimes it's a little boring. Overall it's a good movie and is recommended to all independent movie fans.

I bought it due to it's list of characters. Yes, very bloody...could have used less along with less violent acts. I enjoyed the way the characters interacted and kept the story suspenceful to the end. Ironic ending.

If you liked Pulp Fiction, check out Reservoir Dogs. Same style with chapters that break up the movie and never ending flow of fast dialog. High on violence and language.

I like the actors in this movie, but it's a little confusing and their acting is below par. Maybe the weird director made this a weird movie. I bought this movie because it was so acclaimed and was disappointed.

At the time of it's release, there was no other movie and no other director that pushed as many boundaries as much as Quentin Tarantino's master piece Reservoir dogs. Reservoir dogs may also arguably be one of the best movies ever made, the storyline is superb, the acting is excellent and the cast are nearly irreplaceable. I must say that this movie isn't for the squeamish though, this is probably one of the most violent movies ever made, but don't be fooled, this is also one of the most clever movies ever made!!!. 5/5, definitely buy it!

Review created: 06/25/09

the setting in the movie was confusing at the beginning but that is what keeps the movie entertaining as quentin tarintino always had a way with mixing the scenes up so it would appeatr that everything was on a rewind basis instead of watching from beginning to end. the way everything is played in this in particular movie about a bank job gone sour it will leave you guessing about alot of things but I think thats what he was really trying to do. the only bad thing is that I might have considered that he should have made a sequel to this as it could be considered to leave you hanging but there are lots of movies like that I guess
