Based on a graphic novel, this Depression-era crime story stars Tom Hanks as Michael Sullivan. Hanks plays a quiet hit man who is duty bound to Mafia boss John Rooney, played by Paul Neuman. Due to a chain of illegal acts, we see Hanks on the run with his 12-year-old son, Michael Jr. played by Tyler Hoechlin. A crime photographer and assassin named Maguire, played by Jude Law is sent after Sullivan and his son. Hanks must decide on a course of action as his young son realizes his father's violent way of life. Meticulously directed and brilliantly photographed, each scene of ROAD TO PERDITION has the composition of an expertly crafted painting. Making effective use of rain, snow, and shadows, the filmmakers create a cinematic world that's as dark, cold, and unforgiving as many of its inhabitants. The film also allows for glimpses of emotional warmth, particularly in Sullivan's relationships with his son and Rooney his friend and surrogate father. Hanks is outstanding while Newman once again proves why he's a screen legend. If you are a Tom Hanks fan, and like the film The Green Mile, I think this is a must see film for you. Although this movie is dark and seems rather slow, its pace is perfect, considering the subject matter. Tom Hanks plays a man in the 1920s immersed in a crime family with no real way out. When his son witnesses a routine killing, the boss (Paul Newman) takes an interest and decides it's time for the whole family to go. Father and son escape, while two other family members are murdered in cold blood. The remainder of the movie the two of them are on the run, avoiding the hitmen who follow. Although the father and son had little to no contact before the tragedy, they develop a close bond on the run. Although a great tragedy occurs at the end of the movie, the viewer feels better knowing that the father and son developed real feelings for each other before the final scene.

What can I say, its a Tom Hanks movie. I wouldn't reccomend it for children at all. But good. I collect Tom Hanks movies

I bought 5 of these movies because I'm a Sullivan and I had to give one to each of the inlaw families.

This movie is great! It's exciting, sad, some happy parts, but I suppose it's a good look at the way things used to be between parents and kids, or more... fathers and sons. No real show of affection back in the old days, what a shame. The son learned to never be like his father, sad but a good choice.

This was a wonderful movie and another great performance by Tom Hanks and Paul Newman. I don't feel it is the best movie for children under 13. I would watch this one over and over.

I love this movie its just a good and yet sad movie. It's like a ganster/mafia movie which are always good. I bought it because my boyfriend has never seen it and I liked it alot in theaters, and I got it for a great price.

I loved Paul Newman and Tom Hanks in The Road to Perdition. I love a movie that has depth of characters.

This movie explores the relationships of the "family" versus actual family. it covers one mans struggle to protect his surving son from the man who raised him and brought him into the mob. It offers a realisitic view of how he handles the struggle while also allowing you to feel an empathy with him and struggles to save his son while being able to not agree with or empathize with his lifestyle

Good movie. Not one of Tom Hanks better movies but kept me interested. Jude Law's role was not the "ladies man" role he usually plays and his acting skills need refining to the level of Tom Hanks and Paul Newman. It was great seeing Tom Hanks play the role of a hitman. Another movie that shows his versatility. Entertaining to watch.

This is a very good movie. Good acting by Tom Hanks. He is one of my favorite actors. I recommend it to everyone and I would watch it again.

Once again Tom Hanks matched and played his role as a mob syntactic with flying colors. As he always does he passed his character off with ease. I have always loved mob movies and he played this one as it was him back in the early 1900's. I have always loved this move and it is a must have for any Tom Hanks fan. That is why I gave it an Excellent rating.

I like movies that don't take too long to getcha going. That is one reason I enjoyed this one plus very powerful performances by Tom Hanks and Paul Newman. Also, it's got a MOB connection and I'm a sucker for most gangster plots.
