Excellent Silent Comedy by King Vidor
King Vidor's Show People (1928) is a great silent film. Starring Marion Davies and William Haines, this comedy takes a satirical look at Hollywood from the perspective of a newcomer (Davies) intent on becoming a starlet. It's a very funny film that will especially appeal to those interested in early Hollywood.
If you haven't seen silent movies before and are doubtful that you'd enjoy a silent picture, don't worry. Show People is a fine choice. The comedy draws you in, and you won't even realize there's no talking once you get into the fun story. Vidor was a consummate director, and I rank this film among my favorite silent movies, which also include those of Chaplin and Keaton.
