A worthwhile purchase overall

Megadeth is a band that needs no introduction to anyone even remotely familiar with metal. As far as thrash metal goes, you can't get much catchier than Megadeth's back catalog, from Rust In Peace to Killing Is My Business. Peace Sells is one of their best, if not the best album Megadeth had made, argueably, of course. Songs like the title track and Devil's Island will have your head banging in rythym. The first track, Wake Up Dead, is a really wicked display of guitar playing, and makes me wish Mustaine and Co. made more songs like this. The riffs, and the guitar playing in general, is solid and impressive. The drumming is very well done, and certainly a world better than anything Lars could play. The vocals are kind of hit or miss though. People tend to either really love Mustaine's voice, or hate it. I would tend toward the latter myself, as I think its generally god awful. James Hetfield's vocals sound retarted these days, but the guy had a decent voice in the 80's, and there was a reason he was the singer of Metallica, and not Mustaine. I wouldnt have let him touch a microphone either if it were my band, but thats just my opinion.
Its a shame this band, along with Metallica and several others, turned their back on thrash metal in the 1990's. Peace Sells is a brilliant reminder of what Megadeth once was about. Were there way better thrash bands out there in the 80's and 90's? Definitely, yes, there are albums by bands like Heathen, Artillery, Torture, Dark Angel, Paradox, Kreator, etc, that put anything Megadeth ever made, including this album, to shame, but that is beside the point. Peace Sells is very catchy and even old thrash guys like me still give it a spin sometimes, just because its fun to listen to. You really cant go wrong with old Megadeth material for pure enjoyment.
