You have to own this dvd for its high definition quality and superior filming of a great tale. I can watch it over and over again and still be amazed. Wonderful Cinematography that captured the fierce brutality of Battle as we know it.

  Blood and Guts Galore!!

This nonstop action movie tracks a boy from birth to death within the rough and brutal Spartan society and ends up with the great Legendary fight to the death of the mighty 300. The spirit and courage (to the point of arrogant stupidity) was very admirable. I certainly enjoyed the movie but felt it a bit long for what the story had to offer. I would recommend it to all certainly if nothing else for the history lesson however inflated the legend and Hollywood has made this! Thanks for reading!

I assume everyone have seen it or want to see it but just haven't had the time.

Well if your the latter, I have something to tell you, "Go to your nearest DVD retailer now"

Yes you got to watch it tonight, don't waste anymore time. Don't rent it because if you are buying the Blu-ray version, which is why you are here I assume. If you own it you will watch it at least half a dozen times.

But here's one word to describe the movie "Prolific"

so what are you waiting for? go!

  Must See Movie
Review created: 01/25/08

This is definitely a must see movie. If you love underdogs, then you will love this.

Whether you were already familiar with the story of King Leonidas, you will love this adaptation of his stand with his 300 Spartan warriors against the Persian army led by King Xerxes.

This story is a great testament of losing a battle will sometimes win you the war and how self sacrifice is still the most powerful weapon you can have on the battlefield.

The cinematics are great and the action is fantastic.

Ah, to be male in Ancient Greece...
Review created: 11/07/07
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

"300" is a testosterone-driven fantasy in which all men are fearless warriors, driven by the need for battle and bloodshed. War is depicted as gloriously as any geek loner-type could hope for, with every soldier being the epitome of strength, courage, and physical brute force. Emotional bonding, sensitivity, and compassion don't even come into play; these men were trained to be ruthless killing machines, all in the name of preserving the glory of Sparta. This would no doubt be a ridiculous film if the story were presented in a straightforward, mainstream way. But straightforward and mainstream, "300" is not; this is pure, hard-driving escapism, from the frenetic battle sequences to the elaborate special effects to the over the top performances. In this sense, it's absolutely brilliant.

And it gets even better. Every shot, every setting, and every event is accentuated by a look so stylized that it's practically a living duplicate of Frank Miller's original graphic novel. This was achieved through computer-generated imagery, which was responsible for creating most of the film's locations. Bluescreen technology--also utilized for another incredible Miller adaptation, 2005's "Sin City"--made for a majority of the sets, leaving very little for the actors to actually work with. I can only imagine the effort that went into post-production, the endless hours of crafting landscapes, characters, and special effects all with the click of a mouse. The work paid off; the end product is an effectively heightened reinterpretation of reality, a kind of living illustration that transcends any sense of time or place. It's the perfect look for war story of this caliber, something so grandiose and overplayed that you can't get enough.

The film is narrated by Dilios (David Wenham), a Spartan soldier with a hard-edged masculinity that shines through despite a deceptively soft voice. He recalls Leonidas, Sparta, and the Battle of Thermopylae with eloquence; when considering the heavy-handedness of war, this is no small task. Yet he always gives a perfect delivery, and that only strengthens the appeal of "300." This is in a world all its own, a world dominated by battle cries, sword fights, and bare-chested men that are ripped like bodybuilders. It's all thanks to Frank Miller, whose creative vision has allowed for a truly unique theatrical experience. If he creates another graphic novel, I can't wait for it to be adapted for the big screen.

THIS MOVIE ROCKS!! BLUE RAY MAKES IT BETTER

I cant seem to say enough about this movie. With a slow year for great movies, this one did make it on my list of movies to watch over and over.

The storyline is based on true events but that is only the start of it.

As soon as the movie starts, you will be pulled into the movie, as though you where next to one of the spartons. really, check it out and you will see what I mean.

If you like braveheart, gladiator, then add this movie to the list of greats

I give this movie a two thumbs up, 10/10 rating.

  Amazing Heroic True Story !!!!
Review created: 07/28/07
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

"300" captures the hyper-stylized look and peculiar sensibility of Graphic Novels on film., that has eluded many a talented director.
Along with British Graphic Novelist Alan Moore ("From Hell", "V for Vendetta"), Frank Miller is regarded as one of the masters of the genre. His Gothic, camp-free revamp of DC Comics' mainstay "Batman", "The Dark Knight Returns", provided the brooding template for Tim Burton's "Batman" (1989). And, in 2005, Miller found a kindred pulp spirit in Robert Rodriguez, who partnered with him to co-direct "Sin City", a smashing adaptation of Miller's noir-esque triptych, shot almost entirely on green screen to render the graphic novel's shadowy, chiaroscuro visuals with exacting fidelity.
Now director Zach Snyder ("Dawn of the Dead") takes a similar digital approach to Miller's "300", albeit on a much grander and technically more ambitious scale, to transport the viewer to the ancient, corpse-strewn 'Battle of Thermopylae', circa 480 BC, when 300 Spartan Warriors fought thousands of invading Persian soldiers. A True Tale of Bravery from Greek History.
Miller's quasi-mythic retelling of the Spartans bravely facing their "beautiful death" against the Persians is a bold and wildly imaginative example of the graphic novel at its creative height.
Co-written by Snyder, Kurt Johnstad, and Michael B. Gordon, the movie is narrated by the Spartan Warrior/storyteller Dilios (David Wenham), who introduces us to the legendary Spartan Ruler, King Leonidas (Gerard Butler). Per the Spartan Code of Honor, Leonidas has trained to be a fearless warrior since childhood. Renowned throughout the ancient world for their extraordinary valor and loyalty, the Spartans have long repulsed would-be conquerors, but they have never faced as intimidating or ruthless an army as the Persian hordes, commanded by the giant Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro).
Despite the looming threat by the Persians, the Spartan Council refuses to give Leonidas permission to lead the Spartan Army into battle. Undaunted, he nonetheless bids farewell to his devoted wife, Gorgo (Lena Headey), and young son to face the Persians head-on, backed by an all-volunteer army of 300 Spartan Warriors. With his trusted advisors Dilios and the Captain (Vincent Regan) at his side, Leonidas prepares to unleash hell against the Persians at the Hot Gates of Thermopylae — a treacherous, seaside pass on the Aegean Sea, where they're prepared to fight to the death in defense of Sparta.
This film is so intensly stylized; presented in such unrelenting Graphic Noel noir., history never seemed so enthralling !!
SEE THIS !!!! It has the guaranteed inability to fail you !!!! Wildly entertaining while revealing such a Heroic True Story !!!!

This movie tells the story of the bravest warriors to ever enter battle. The Spartans take on the Persians outnumbered so badly so sane man would ever consider entering the battle.

The story tells the life a man whos life starts and ends as the chosen leader of his people. A great story with great effects and great battle scenes.

Overall an excellent movie!

I absolutely ADORE this DVD. Hubby and I have owned it since it came out and I've personally watched it at least 10 times since we bought it. Certain parts of the movie are a bit over-done, but it adds to the movie completely. It makes characters seem mystical and somewhat insane with their wardrobe. The overly shown scene of dude getting kicked into a huge abyss is definately NOT the best part of the movie, but a good part, anyway.

This was my favorite action, intense, gore, blood movie of 2007. Featuring slow motion scenes was the best. However the real story of this was different than the movie. I only enjoy watching the action from this movie. Grade = A

The 300: Tops Gladiator/A Guy Top 10 For Sure
Review created: 08/02/07

I went to see this in theaters twice and I bought it on bootleg DVD from my local flea market. I have now seen it more than 35 times. I watch it while I'm writing, doing paperwork, and to fall asleep to.

I just bought the DVD from Wal-Mart.

I also own an original movie poster.

Best line: (King Leonidas is asked to kneel by Xerxes)

"Kneeling ... now that might be a bit of a problem. You see ... killing all of those soldiers of yours has left a nasty cramp in my leg ..."

This is a visually stunning movie. I highly recommend it! If you are a creative type (graphic design/artist) you owe it to yourself to see this movie.

One of my favorite scenes:

King Leonidas is standing in front of a deep water well facing a messenger of the Persian army (whose back is to the well) ... Leonidas disagrees with the messenger and kicks him into the well. This is dramatically shot in slow motion - it's so visual and empowering.

Almost every second of this movie frame by frame - is worthy of an art gallery.

I think this will go down as one of the greatest movies for college and professional sports inspiration.

I loved Sin City and I loved this too. It is visually stunning. Gerard Butler does a great job. The story is empowering. You leave it, feeling like you could kick someone's a**, for lack of a better description. It's much like Gladiator or Fight Club in that way.

Watching this movie is a stunning experience!
Review created: 10/01/07
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Almost everything about this movie is fantastic, if not utterly awesome. I have watched this movie twice, once on standard dvd and once on blu-ray, let me tell you, watching the blu-ray version was an experience. The sound quality when paired with a compatible home theatre system is a force to be reckoned with. The visual effects are awesome. The blood spatter looks good, a bit much at times though. I must warn you that the high def version does have a "grainy" look to the film which was intended by the filmmaker to give a different feel of the movie, so don't do like I did and wonder what was wrong with my player. I also don't think that they could have casted this film any better, or depicted the characters any better.
The blu-ray version contains tons and tons of bonus features of which some are in high def and look fantastic on a high def 1080i television. This movie will be doing some time in my bluray player for sure!!
