Three men and... what about the baby?

If you don't actually care that your children learn anything from the actual traditions about the three kings or anything from Biblical scholarship then this film may be for you. It is a well animated flight of fancy which remains barely rooted in the birth of Christ and the scriptural account of the givers of the three gifts. As a priest, it is a film I want to like for attempting to cover this subject with quality animation, but in the end, you may have to spend more time unteaching kids what they saw than this depiction is worth. If you are just looking for bubble gum for the brain to show children around Christmas time (and there is nothing wrong with that), it only barely fits the bill because it is boring. I guess that is the irony of it all. So much was added to embellish the basic story in order to make it more interesting for kids and I don't believe it capable of holding any child's attention of any age from start to finish. I support Disney for marketing this work of animation from Spain since it is only the second instance of their depicting the "religious" meaning of Christmas but I would skip this and watch "Small One" which, although not perfect, is a much better presentation of the Incarnation of God as the meaning behind the holidays.
