Album Notes Pearl Jam: Eddie Vedder (vocals, guitar); Stone Gossard, Mike McCready (guitar); Jeff Ament (bass); Matt Cameron (drums). Recorded live at Pennsylvania State College on May 3, 2003. Moving on from the grunge era with little concern for the latest pop trends, Eddie Vedder and the boys have happily shed their fair-weather fans while keeping their ragged-glory sound remarkably consistent. During this formidable 2003 performance, staunch supporters of the band are treated to many of Pearl Jam's finest tunes, beginning with the slowly building "Release," and including barn-storming rockers such as "Animal," "Corduroy," "Even Flow," "Do the Evolution," "Last Exit," and "Porch." After more than a decade of live sets, the group knows how to mix things up, and they carefully intersperse the evening with loose groove-oriented jams and mellower fare such as "Small Town," "Nothingman," and "Black." A frontman keenly aware of rock's history, Vedder also breaks out a slew of covers, including a charmingly informal solo acoustic versions of the Beatles' "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away," and John Lennon's "Gimme Some Truth," updated with modern-day political commentary. The band also dusts off the gorgeous Victoria Williams-penned "Crazy Mary," CCR's "Fortunate Son," and Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World." On this three-disc live set, Pearl Jam proves that, in their own way, they too are a classic rock band in the best possible sense. | See an error? Submit a change request | ||||||||||
