24 - Season 1 (DVD, 2009, 6-Disc Set)

The writing, acting and directing is second to no other show on Network television. In fact, this is a show on a par with HBO dramas like The Sopranos, The Wire and Six Feet Under.

I've never been a big Kiefer Sutherland fan in the past but he's terrific in the role of Jack Bower, Director of the Counter Terrorism Unit. Surrounding cast members are also great.

I don't know what's going to happen (thankfully, no one tipped me off) so I'm on the edge of my seat every episode. Interestingly, even though my wife knows what's going to happen, she's still on the edge of her seat watching! I'm lamenting what life will be like after I've watched all the episodes.

24 is an action packed mini movie that has terroistic threat that must be dealt with by the CTU(Counter Terrorism Unit) in one 24-hour period per season; each episode is one hour in that 24-hour period. Each season has been able to become more intrigueing and exciting than the one before! Do you like sitting on the edge of your seat? Do you have want to have to remind yourself to breathe? Do you, like most Americans, need a hero? Then you will love 24!
My husband, son, and I could hardly wait for it to come out on DVD and watch every action packed episode. We became hard-core 24 Addicts after stumbling onto the show on Fox during season 4, aired in 2005. There was so much action, so much intrique, such incredible special effects, intense character development, and yes, that is what we saw in only one episode! We ran, not walked to the video rental store and began watching the series on DVD. Our family quickly developed a routine of having 24 "watching parties" every weekend to watch 8 or 12 episodes at once, with Jack Bauer the guest of honor! I never can get enough of the show's movie-scale set and exciting, intense action.
The interpersonal relationships are so thoroughly explored, all the while these unseen heros of our great nation are saving lives, the country, and the world in fresh and unpredictable ways, and often at their own personal expense. The characters will inspire you, enrage you, sadden you, and cause you to rejoice all in one episode! Watching one episode of 24 is like eating a Lay's potato chip: YOU CAN''T HAVE JUST ONE! Watching the show on DVD is the ultimate way to experience the ticking clock; the evolving and resolving of monumental terroist threat all in one 24 hour period! How amazing is that?
And as if the excitement of each episode is not enough, we even created a game at each spot in the DVD made for the commercial break whereby the show fades to the clock ticking; after a few seconds the ticking clock is shown again with a period of lapsed time; meanwhile all three of us (and any friends also present) try to guess the seconds that will be shown on the clock when the show fadse back in. Of course, we all have a 1/60 chance of guessing it correctly; and the excitement and tension of the episode seems to carry into our little game making it tremendous fun! By the way, my husband is the reigning 24 clock champ with having guessed correctly 14 times in the watching of all four seasons! Try it with your family as you watch, it really is fun!

The clock is ticking ... get your hands on the complete DVD set with special features and commentary! It's time you got excited about something, and this is it! Once you have watched this drama in real time, everything else is just fantasy!

This is where it all begins. As I sit and think about how much
TV I have watched in my life 24 is probably at the top of the list. If I think about how much TV I have watched in the shortest period of time 24 wins hands down. This is simply an incredible show (and Elisha Cuthbert is really hot).

I honestly cannot recommend watching this show from week to week … just too much happens between each show that you lose the urgency of finding out what happens next. The only way to watch this is getting the DVD’s!

The whole series is amazing. Simply having a series dedicated to 1 day must have been a monumental task. I love how the show comes together and how you can love and hate the same character in the same hour! There are some truly unforgettable characters in the show as well.

This is a MUST SEE! Start here and be prepared to lose the next week or two of your life ... but I somehow manage to justify it as time well spent!

If it were possible to give a score of 14 out of 5 I would. This show has everything..great plot, acting, action, Elisha Cuthbert. Follow the main character, Jack Bauer, through a full day as a member of the Los Angeles branch of the Counter Terrorist unit. Jack not only fights the bad guys who are attempting to kill the president but also manages a significantly screwy family life.

If i could be anyone else I'd be Jack Bauer and he doesn't even really exist.

The television show that breaks all the rules. By killing all their favorite characters, continually ending by screwing over the good guys, not all the bad guys get caught, and then the endings are never truly happy.

I was hooked from season 1 and you will be as well !!!!

Season One is the best season of 24. I don't even bother watching 24 on television during the regular season because it's SO much better watching the DVD. This way, I don't have to wait an entire week before I find out what happens next. It's also kinda cool literally spending 24 hours watching the season -- because in some way you feel you're watching in real time.

Watching an entire season on DVD is the BEST way to enjoy the series. Buy it today!

Keifer Sutherland is awesome as the CTU agent Jack Bauer.
My husband and I started watching this series last year on DVD. The first 3 episodes we were thinking, it's okay, but it's not that great. By the end of the 3rd episode we were hooked! Now we are anxiously waiting for season 5 to come out on DVD and Season 6 to start in January.
In addition to us being addicted we had to lend out the dvd's to family and friends as we finished watching them so that we could justify ours. They are just as hooked as we are!
I give 24 a standing Ovation. I'm actually a little disappointed when the series is finally over.

As in most shows or movies, the first is always the best. The First Season of 24 was spectacular. It added a new dimension to the TV series. Of course, all falling in a 24 hour period was great but it gave you time to understand and care about each character even the ones who turned out bad. The ending is shocking and leaves you stunned. No other season was quite like it.
Keifer Sutherland proved television was a great venue for his talents. So many other great actors also came out of this season. If you haven't seen it, what are you waiting for. I guarantee you will be mesmerized right from the first episode. You might not want to make any plans for an entire weekend. You may want to do nothing else but watch. Keep the popcorn close by.

This is something you truly want to watch. It's something you'll remember in the future, and will want to watch it again. The directors obviously knew how to get the viewers to like it!

I never had time to watch a single show last season (school and work at night) I changed my schedule this semester and had a chance to watch 24 from the start of the new season. I already bought the 1st season after I have seen the 1st two episodes of the new season. Great action. It kind of annoys to have a lot of commercial breaks on tv. I suggest get the dvd...This would be a great investment.

This show is incredible. Highly addictive in a good way, and gut wrenching action compiled with intense dialogue and the very nicely structured plot. The DVD is great because you will want to see the episodes over and over again and DVDs obviously allow that.

Fantastic television series. Fast paced. Realistic. Although I saw it on television, the DVD still kept me on the edge of my seat. I wanted to help 'Jack'...... Found myself talking to the television set. Extremely entertaining. Great Series. Each season it keeps getting better.

What can i say this is one of the best Tv series i have seen and it gets better the more you get into it. Great characters great story lots of build up and if you like action then this is a must have. (caution) You will get addicted.

Season on is Just the Beginning. Jack is introduced and from there, you are hooked. As an Adult, this is an awesome series, but beware that children are not exposed to this. It is pretty rough at times.
With frequent gunplay, hand-to-hand combat, explosions, high-speed chases, double-crosses, deception, and some sexual content, again 24 is definitely not for kids. Some teens may be able to handle the violence, but while Jack is the good guy in the show, he isn't a role model by any means. With its breathless pace, moral dilemmas galore, and an innovative format, 24 is one of the most exciting shows for adults on television today. (A word of warning: 24 is expressly designed to be addictive, so if parents don't want their teens watching all 24 episodes, they probably shouldn't let them watch one.)

24's first season was one of its best, introducing and developingsome of the show's most memorable characters, all while keeping viewers guessing about their intentions. The basis of the plot, that someone intends to assassinate a black presidential candidate on the day of the California primary, was a more imaginative premise than the "terrorist threat of the day" basis of later seasons. The plot takes some interesting twists and eventually different parts of the puzzle start to connect, but discussion of the story is best left to those who've already seen the season.

What was best about this season was the characters. No later season paralleled season one in terms of interesting, developed characters. From the ruthless villain, Gaines, to CTU agents like Tony and Mason whose motives and loyalty to Jack are unclear, this season did the best character work of the series. Even lead actor Kiefer Sutherland made the most of Jack Bauer this season. The cold, emotionless Jack of later seasons is far less compelling than the fragmented, almost fragile Jack from season one. Also worthy of mention is Dennis Haysbert as David Palmer, the morally irreproachable presidential candidate who has to deal with the simultaneous pressures of his family, his campaign, and the attempts on his life.

Overall this is a fine introduction to 24, and the characters really make the story. Developed, personal, and each carrying a past, they do a fantastic job of driving the plot forward, and the actors really pull off the scenes in which their characters turn out to not to be what they seem. No other season of 24, with the possible exception of season two, kept me on the edge of my seat wanting more as much as this one.

At first it is a little difficult to believe that a series taking place in real-time could keep your attention. However, the producers and writers of this have proven it is very possible. This series is filled with suspense, in fact it was VERY difficult to turn it off. I easily watched the entire season (all 24 hours) in just a few days. I would rate this with Five stars and put it up there with some of the top dramas like CSI. I loved it, there really is not much more to say, except that YOU HAVE TO SEE IT FOR YOURSELF!!

I was not aware of the television series 24 before the 5th and final season. Then, after watching only one hour of it, I was so engrossed that I couldn't wait for Mondays to come. It was almost like electric to me!! I have recently retired and can now watch more television. I ordered the 1st season from ebay and couldn't take myself away from the set. It is absolutely riviting every second and I felt as if I was right there. I believe I watched the whole 1st season in less than 6 days. The night I finished the 1st season, I went onto ebay and ordered the 2nd season. I am about halfway through now and the intensity has remained. The acting is superb and always leaves you with an elevated heartbeat and anticipation of "what's next". This is without a doubt the best series I have ever watched and I can hardly wait to finish this one and order my 3rd season. Do not buy this series if you do not absolutely love powerful acting, suspense,betrayal, a well-written blow-by-blow story of terrorism attacks on this country and plots to assassinate the President of the United States.It is awesome! What do I do when I have finished season 4---watch season 5 again?? You bet, I will!
My only criticism, if there has to be one, is that they keep killing of the characters that you have gotten to learn and replacing them with new ones--with the exception of Jack Bauer, of course.

I started watching this show in season 5. I liked it so much that I bought seaon 1 on ebay and started watching it. In the last 4 days I have watched 20 episodes and can't wait to watch the last 4 (today). This show is better than other series like the Soprano's because it is continuous action. Some nights I'll watch 4 episodes before I go to bed and then I can't go to sleep because I am so wound up from all the energy that the show generates. To get all the episodes without the commercials make the dvd set worth the $. A++++++++++++++++

Incredible! Breathtaking! Addictive! I only started watching Season 5 and now I must watch the series from the beginning. Got season 1 on eBay and watched all 24 hours in a week! Excellent writers and story-lines with an amazing cast! Once you start you can't stop!

The one that started it all is so addictive that you want to watch the entire show all at once. Unfortunately other things get in the way like sleep and work. I remember watching this when it was first on TV. I hated waiting each week to see the next episode, because they always leave you on the edge of your seat. Plus I missed a couple of episodes due to VCR screwups and satellite dish going nuts, so I had to buy the entire season (I own all 4 that are available) and I'm glad I did, because I missed a few things besides the episodes that I didn't notice originally. I've watched it religiously since the first season. Just watch the first episode and you'll be addicted too.

If you want the most thrilling, entertaining show/movie start with 24 season 1 and don't stop until you are caught up with season 5! Kiefer Sutherland is UNBELIEVABLE as Jack Bauer and the incredible writers keep you on the edge of your seat the entire show. Add the real-time aspect, and you have something that is unlike anything else you will ever watch. I've never missed an episode, and sure don't plan on doing so any time soon!
