Diddy Kong Racing (Nintendo 64, 1997)

It isn't common to see a game directed towards a pre-teen audience be as explosively fun and popular as Diddy Kong Racing. Unlike Mario Kart 64, this game features something unique to other racing games: a well detailed adventure mode. In fact it's extremely similar to 3D platformers such as Super Mario 64 or Banjo-Kazooie. You drive around the beautifully rendered 3D world, find Levels (or "domains"), and then within those domains, you must race and win. The object of the game is to collect Gold Balloons (similar to Power Stars in SM64 or Jiggies in Banjo-Kazooie), which can be obtained by winning races. Some of the later courses in the game require a certain amount of Gold Balloons in order to access them. The game has bosses that you must defeat, powerups you can use, and characters you meet to help you on your quest. Although this is a racing game, I would consider it closer to a 3D Platformer, and a great one at that. Definitely pick up this title.

This is another great game for kids!! If you like any of the Mario Kart's them you will love this game! It has the same principals but with added twists and secrets to uncover! AWESOME GAME!!

This is a great racing game. Some would associate it to Mario Kart but I think its an entirely different concept. Sure they both primarily involve racing but with the 3 different vehicles to race in, the game can be quite entertaining. This game is a must have. Although it doesn't compare to Mario Kart racing-wise, Diddy Kong Racing is a fun game to play for hours.

The adventure mode excels in replay value and it takes quite a while for a person to defeat the whole game in its entirety. Additionally, the bosses aren't easy nor are they incredibly hard. They're just right for a person under the age of 10. However, older children will easily get fed up with this game and even consider it lame. The multiplayer feature is an area that DKR doesn't excel in. The multiplayer racing is something many will dispise to the core very easily. An average game, overall, yet I would only recommend it for kids under the age of 10.

Classic racing game. If you like Mario Kart, you will love this the same. The ability to choose the type of vehicle you use is always sweet. If you want to fly, you can choose the plane. The float, the hoverboat or just plain ol' drive, choose the kart. Great game for friends and fam.

Classic Diddy Kong racing game. Its fun to play with plenty of characters to choose from. Plus you have the adventure and track mode. Also the option of driving a car, air plane, and hover craft.

I owned this game 10 years ago and the entire family loved it. It got lost somewhere over the years so I decided to check eBay and found it, so I bought it. Awesome game! It's very in depth for an N64 racing game. Drive with Cars, Hover crafts, Planes. This game is hilarious. The family loves it!

If you have N64, it's this or Mario, they're both excellent. Must have game.

Replay value is also excellent, especially multiplayer.

All of your favorite characters, power ups, etc, and plenty of tracks.

I love that the game works the first time every time and there is no damage to the game. I had just purchased a 64 so I needed to get this game one of the best games ever.

The game was in great condition. I bought it because it is a classic & brings back childhood memories. Theres nothing I didn't like about it.

It's a great classic and it's fun for everyone. I bought it because I never beat the game before and wanted another crack at it after purchasing a nintendo 64 at a yard sale.

This is one of my favorite games....I loved it when it first came out and I bought it for my kids, and I love it now.

love the versitility of the players and you can choose different kinds of vehicles. Can loose interest very fast.

I like play the game my son like playing it to we have fun play it went he come over to see me. I had this game about 6 year ago We got a N64 back so I like play it so I went on Ebay to see if I could find it and we find it so I play it all the time

I love this game cause you never get bored of it. The racing tracks are challenging and really fun while playing against others, plus it fits most generations.
It's one of the best games to play by yourself and with others.
I definately recommend it.

I buy these games for my husband mostly, but i too love to race occasionally. I am more into Quest games, adventure and some Simulation. My husband loves this game as well as his many other racing games.

Rare knew what they were doing on the N64. But great characters probably helped out a lot too. Example, Diddy Kong was a hero just waiting for a big break, like Donkey Kong stepping aside so he could be the star for once. Diddy Kong Racing was just that, Diddy stardom. And how he did shine. Instead of driving you fly and that's actually a lot more fun than feeling the road. And with a great cast of Rare characters like Conker you can't go wrong. Graphics are an improvement over what was done in Mario Kart 64. Controls are solid and all the Nintendo charm is there with an adventure mode as well. This is a must have for any Nintendo fan or N64 owner. Great game!!! 4/5

This is a pretty fun game with a mix of Mario Kart and Mario 64/Donkey Kong 64!!! This is similar to Mario Kart except for a few things:

1. Different Vehicles - These consist of the Race Kart, Hovercraft and, Plane!!! This allows you to race with more than just a Kart like on Mario Kart 64!!!

2. Levels - This game consist of Levels where you must collect balloons in order to proceed, much like in Donkey Kong 64 where you collect golden bananas in order to enter certain areas!!!

3. Bosses - I actually find the fact that you have to race bosses like the dinosaur pretty fun!!! This makes the game a bit more of a challenge because the bosses are not all that easy!!!


I would not say this is any better than Mario Kart because if they had came out with a Mario Kart that was like Diddy Kong Racing it would probably had been an awesome game and been a lot better than this one!!!

This game is by far not a waste of money so, if you like Mario Kart you will most likely like this one!!!

Takes me back to my childhood days of playing Diddy Kong Racing. This is a great game for all ages!!!

I love this game more have one big problem , this game not save in memory card is very bad because never done the game, if you need play in another day you need start again , i buy because my son have a DK and loved and n have problems in save game .

This is my first N64 game and I love it. The controls are easy to grasp and master. The variety of characters and race courses add to the replayability.I recommend it to anyone.
