Sharp learning curve, but ultimately very gratifying

Body Harvest has the sharpest learning curve (time needed to learn how to play well) of any game I have ever played. Indeed, I owned the game for years and played for well over 50 hours before I realised how to succeed in it. The task of learning may be too much for some. But for those with perseverance, the game provides a great experience.

Body Harvest has one of the largest worlds of any game I've played: it is simply enormous. The first level of five, Greece, is a bit larger than the size of a average game's world. Partly because of this, the game takes a huge amount of time to complete. But it is a worthwhile experience. The game is largely shoot-em-up, and players get to use a variety of weapons, from machine guns to howitzers, to engage the enemy. But there are also a variety of (often difficult) puzzles to solve, and the chance to meet several interesting characters on the way. Additionally, the game allows the player to command vessels ranging from fire trucks to planes to ships during the course of the game.

Body Harvest is a very dark game. After the first level, Greece, it becomes rather desolate, with rainy Java and snowy Siberia providing two good examples. But the battles and puzzles are engaging and the storyline is well-developed. If you can devote the time to learning how to play properly, you will be gratified and rewarded.

Body Harvest was a video game that I grew up since the Nintendo 64 was first released. The coders paid some attention to and applied special details to the game that made it both enjoyable and historically accurate. I enjoyed this game as a child and still today because of it's difficulty in terms of progression, and for the time of release, a less linear game than was typically available. All of the zones are open-ended, and it does a good job of masking that it is guiding you along a pre-set path. All in all, for it's time it was a fantastic game that I enjoyed very much, it encompassed driving, RPG elements, puzzle-solving and also Adventure/Action. It was certainly ahead of it's time, which is why I still enjoy playing it today.

Old School N64 Game: Body Harvest
Review created: 09/03/08

To be honest this game is way below the standard graphics and game-play of today. That being said, this game is still fun. It is just amazing how back when it was a current release we thought a game like this was great. I've played FPSs with better graphics on the N64. This game is nice because of the open world exporation even though it is sparcely populated with people, explorable building, and sights to see. I almost want to say it is like GTA because you can jack vehicals and shoot people. Levels are saved directly to the cartridge. Unfortunatly there is no way to save progress in a level to be completed at another time. I don't have houres and houres to devote to gaming so not being able to save progress makes it hard for me to advance in this game.

  Die alien, die!
Review created: 08/02/01

Pros:
ok storyline, cool vehicles

Cons:
bocky graphics, sound, control,

While I was browsing around the under 10 dollar pre-used game sections, I found a couple games that looked interesting to me, Gex64 and Body Harvest. Out of those two, Body Harvest has kept my attention the longest. Plot/Story It s the year 2016, and the Earth lies in ruins. Over the past 100 years, the human race has nearly been brought to extinction by alien bugs. The key survivors who are being suited up for their upcoming battle against the aliens are the human race s last hope. In other words, you destroy all the big, ugly aliens to bring back humanity. Game Play When you start you...

Pros:
Very big, Many vehicles, impressive looking aliens.

Cons:
Character runs like a dork, too difficult navigating, very foggy

I was in France when I bought this as it only costed 50 francs, so I thought why not, if its bad I can just flog it of to a 2nd hand store. The Premice of this game is that over the period of 100 years aliens have been coming to earth, herding people around and then eating them very messily. by the year 2016, two people remain, Adam Drake, a Geneticaly enhanced warrior, and Daisy, his purple haired sidekick. They go to key points in earths history using the Alpha 1 a time traveling hovercraft tank thing to stop them having their snacks Graphics- The graphics themselves are very simplistic,...

Body Harvest, and I thought it was a barbecue
Review created: 06/13/01
by: narmgreyrunner -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Strong storyline, multiple vehicles and eras, good weapon array, massive worlds

Cons:
Blocky graphics, short sight range, tedious at times, control

Body Havest, although coming out long after its intended release date, therefore putting it in direct confrontation with Turok 2 and Ocarina of Time along with other newer titles, is a strong contender in the N64 library. I've seen a lot of people criticized for it's graphics, though they ignore the massive gameplay. Though they are right, the graphics are first generational, and nothing amazing. Although they do the job and get the point across. My problem is the short sight range before the fog makes it impossible to see past a certain point. The game doesn't suffer as much on the ground,...

  That is a big bug
Review created: 06/07/00
by: killaX -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
lot's of fun

Cons:
killing bugs? gets boring fast.

Body Harvest is another one of the strange games that N64 came up with. I don't know why the title is Body Harvest, because I don't remember harvesting anything the last time I played it. It is a good game, but after I rented it I didn't find it good enough to buy and here's why; The Plot: It's been a long time, but I'll tell you what I remember. You live on a planet where bugs have miraculously taken over, and your a one man army that has to stop them. You drive around from town to town and around the country side trying to destroy the evil bugs. You earn new abilities and units as you go....

  Fun gameplay, low price
Review created: 12/20/00
by: ar0007 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Great gameplay, interesting storyline, good music, CHEAP!

Cons:
A little repetitive, 1st generation graphics

For the purchase price of this game (usually between $10-$20 US), it offers quite a bit in gameplay and fun. Let's get to it. Graphics: (6/10) Some would say that 6/10 is a little high to rate a game whose graphics are blocky, sometimes slow, and often annoyingly clipped. The graphics are first-generation, and it is clear that the creators were still learning how to use the N64 to its fullest ability. Regardless, the graphics do not inhibit the gameplay, and, once you get used to them, are actually quite nice. Sound/Music: (8/10) The sound? It does leave a little to be desired. But, the...
