one of my all time fave's
Review created: 09/13/07

I love this book the first tome I read it and every time after Thia Is one of very few books I have ever read more than once and I never don't laugh out loud. It is hilarious. I don't know that i understand the rest of the books as much but they are still funny as all get out. Even if you don't like Sci Fi I think you will like this book. It is extremely well written.

  I didn't get it

Let me start by saying that I LOVED the movie. Usually, when you enjoy a movie you are bound to hold to the old cliche "the movie was good but the book was better". In this case, although the book was okay, I thought the movie was much better.
The book was funny in parts and obviously was the inspiration for a hilarious movie, but on the whole, I was disappointed with the book. If you enjoyed the movie, I would recommend the book just for a different slant on the story.
Apparently, people have been talking about this book for years. I guess I just don't understand how the book falls so flat with such a great writer. The story, the characters, the imagination, all was well done, but at the end of the book, I was just left feeling empty. I couldn't believe it. The book just ended abruptly. There was no real climax and no resolution. Maybe you have to read the other "Hitchhikers" books to get the whole story. I don't know if I will take the time.
So, just an average read that was made in to a fantastic movie.

Pros:
Sharp but mostly harmless satire, strange situations, and witty wordplay

Cons:
None, unless you haven't any sense of humor at all.

Michelle, a.k.a. chelledun is hosting the Nostalgia Write-Off in honor of her 200th review, and I just couldn't turn her invitation down! So, here is my contribution. Kudos for such an interesting -- and challenging -- idea! Nos tal gia: Pronunciation: n -'stal-j

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Pros:
So funny and clever, highly original

Cons:
Very short

I have been hearing about this book ever since Boy Scouts when we were working on our First Aid merit badge and the instructor told us rule number one should always be Don't Panic! This is one of the most wildly popular and loved science fiction stories of the past fifty years and with the movie coming out this May, I decided to make an effort to read it. In short, I loved it, and now I can't wait to see the movie. Having seen the preview and knowing the actors involved, it made my reading experience more fun because I could better visualize everything. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is.

  Don't Panic! - part one...

Pros:
Hilarious, clever, inventive, ingenious, other words beginning with "in"...

Cons:
... the third and fourth books are nowhere near as good as the first two...

The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy is, without any doubt, one of greatest works of comedy science fiction ever written in my opinion the greatest. It has everything hilarious characters, surreal situations, a cracking plot, and sparkling wit on every page. The plot basically follows thus: Arthur Dent awakens one day to find that his house is about to be knocked down by the council to make way for a new bypass. When he complains, a man (who reminds me very much of our Landlord s smarmy Area Manager) explains that the plans had been up for his perusal for months albeit behind a locked door in.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Useful or Dangerous?
Review created: 05/24/02
by: Petra -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Seems User-friendly, Some Useful Information

Cons:
At Times Inaccurate, Can be Dangerous to Travellers

The actual Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy is published by the great publishing corporations of Ursa Minor and rather difficult to obtain. When inquiring about this book at the book store, be sure to mention the publishing company because if you don t, you may receive a more widely known account of two travel correspondents for the Guide from which I have gathered the information for this review. As said, I have not been able to obtain the actual Guide itself, but feel confident that I gathered enough information from the first-hand observations of the correspondents Ford Prefect and Arthur..

  Bloody Funny, But...
Review created: 09/01/01
by: tpierzina -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Wildly inventive; unpredictable; funniest sci-fi you'll ever read

Cons:
2-dimensional characters; empty satire

Calling Douglas Adams The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy a bit unpredictable is like calling Bill Clinton a bit of a flirt. I can safely say that Adams writes like nobody I ve read before. He left me shaking my head at times, laughing out loud, thinking How can anyone come up with this stuff?! Have no doubt: this is a very, very funny book. However, I will break what appears to be the cardinal commandment here at Epinions: Thou shall give Hitchhiker s five stars. At least one review I ve read here also touches on this (tip of the hat to HawgWild, http://epinions.com/book-review-4AE-83DDDF6..
