This game was pretty good, it has a nice selection of awesome characters, each character has a awesome weapon too, brutal bosses, i'm pretty sure this game has fatalities too, but i havn't learned how to do them yet. Yes it is a bloody game but fun, oh yes and there is also secret characters you can unlock and play, The boss after Grendald, is a bad ass, he's huge, you can also fall in lakes of acid and get hurt from that. This game is just awesome, if you love V.S games i'd suggest this game for you.

Didn't know this was a one on one combat game.
Review created: 03/12/09

I was suprized, I thought this was going to be an rpg type game reading the item discriptions. I was suprized to find that it's a one on one fighting game like mortal combat or killer instincts. But I did love the caricter designs and the fighting moves were what you would expect kind of dull. But graphics are pretty cool for a 64!

Mace: The dark age is a Fantastic game that has Huge enviroments,Great looking characters,Detalied graphics and interesting combo system. Mace uses Horizontal,Vertical and kick to attack there is also a 'evade' Button that allows the player to move away quickly or side step.

What I love about mace is how you have lots of room to move around in and the detail is Excellent for such a first generation N64 game. Combos are also fun to figure out, you can't JUST mash buttons and win like in other fighters. This is one of the only fighting game That I can say that ALL fighters are good. 12 fighters to pick from and 5 hidden in the game. Mace the Dark age has one of the best soundtracks in a fighting game, It's very dark, moody and gets you revved up to beat some rear. The first combatant is "Mordus Kull" The hard rocking guitar will having you banging you head. Good stuff and really sets the mood of a such a underrated game.

A game so great doesn't mean it doesn't have problems. The Computer is Difficult later on in the game and requires being "Cheap" in order to defeat them one character "Lord Deimos" is ridiculously cheap. The control doesn't move at respond too well when the graphics lag when there is too much going on but that fixes itself pretty quick. One last minor problem is somethings scenery can get in your way but this is rare but it will happen.

There were other fighters out for other consoles that made this gem overlooked (Soul Blade,Battle Arena Toshinden 2, Tekken ETC). I suggest anyone looking for a fighter that doesn't have restricted enviroments,Sweet Characters,Easy Combo system and Graphic Fatalites. You should really get this game for it's probably the 2nd Best N64 Fighting game (Killer Instinct Gold being first).

Try it,Jam it,Enjoy it.

Another game of half-naked women beating on each other

Pros:
lot's of fighters, great control setup for combo masters

Cons:
not just another basic fighting game

Don't get me wrong, I love to watch half naked women fight, but this is almost rediculous. When Mace was put together, the plan was not made for a successful game. Yeah, it was one of the first fighting games in 3D, but I think your average gamer is expecting more. The stages are well laied out, with levels you can jump up from, perils if you step in the wrong spot, and even acid you can knock your opponent into. Nintendo did a wonderful job on the graphics. Not only do they appear 3D, but they have a neon look that makes them stand out. I am not particularly fond of the way your opponent's..

N64 fails at a fighting game again
Review created: 07/11/00

Pros:
cool characters

Cons:
choppy gameplay, buttonmasher

N64 just can't get it right when it comes to fighting games. Quick, best N64 fighting game?.....well?...yeah, exactly. With N64's slew of 3-D games they lack a true, solid fighting game. This holds true for Mace. Too many holes and flaws to this good arcade game. For starters, there is choppy graphics. Characters are not fluent when moving and it is completely annoying. The moves are dummied down and basicly turn this into a button masher with little skill involved. On the upside, the story is decent for a fighting game and the characters are downright awesome. Medieval knights to Skelatal...

Very repetitive. Very repetitive. Very repetitive.

Pros:
There's nothing like being a huge red armored knight with a huge fiery sword...

Cons:
For the first five minutes....

I bought this game not knowing anything about it - it was on sale, and I was bored, so it seemed like a bargain. The first time I played, it was pretty good. I naturally picked the meanest looking person with the biggest weapon, and proceeded to hack people to pieces. The first few levels were a cakewalk, and then a tough level hit where I had no chance to do anything. I tried a few more times with different characters, but always get to the same spot and die. My biggest complaint about the game is the radical difference in the computers methods of playing, even though each character is very..

+Updated+ Better than mortal kombat +Updated+

by: Pasius -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Sound, Graphics, Levels, characters

Cons:
lost my game!

Wow, I love Mace: The Dark Ages. It was extremely hard for me to beat, and I am fairly good at fighting 1 on 1 games! Although they don't give as much background to their characters as Mortal Kombat does, the characters in Mace: The Dark Ages are way cooler! This game takes place in the ancient times... I'm not quite sure if they even paid any attention to what time they placed this in, they took different nations from different times and threw em all together, because there is a vikking and that happened way before the day of the samurai I think, and they have a viking, and a samurai... So,..

  The Truest Fighting Sim
Review created: 12/25/99
by: DemonKnighT -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Graphics, Sound and Ease of Use

Cons:
Hard to pull combos and specal atttacks

Mace : The Dark Age is the truest fighting game of them all. From it's easy to use, controller setup to it's fluid graphics and real combat sequences. Unlike the games from the Mortal Kombat series, Mace uses reasonable attacks which are easy to initiate. However, Just like Mortal Kombat, it does run on the fatality system. The graphics are sensational. Mortal Kombat's blood effects hit the ground then disappear whereas Mace's stay on the ground, visible to the eye. The same applies to explosive attacks and "eggs" which are thrown. In conclusion, this game has promise and paves the way for.
