20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection: The Best of Spanky & Our Gang * by Spanky McFarlane (CD, Apr-2005, Mercury)

Having come to age in the late 1960-s I was a fan of Spanky & Our Gang especially their hit "Like To Get To Know You". Informative insert. It turns out that Mama Cass of the Mama and Papas was an admirer of Spanky. Their other hits include "Sunday Will Never Be The Same" and "Lazy Day". A light "sunny" sound all around..they are probably one of the most underrated groups. I recommend this CD wholeheartedly.

I loved the clear recording and I loved going back to the past musically. It was great was one of my favorite songs of the 60's Give A Damn....Thanks for the memories. I shall be back.

If you like the Mamas and The Papas, you will like this CD. The vocals of Spanky McFarlane are great and could even surpass Cass Elliott. Their songs seem to have a common theme of enjoying the day, the park, kids and sunshine which might wear on the listener, but three songs are a great addition to any sixties collection: 'Sunday Will Never Be The Same', 'Lazy Day', and 'Like To Get To Know You'.
