Halloween is the best time of year to read a book about ghost! This is a powerful, bone-chilling collection of short stories that will have you sleeping with the lights on. Very macabre and menacing....just right for making your hair stand on end! My favorite was the story of the antique phone that sends calls from the dead. Good spooky stuff!

20th Centrury Ghosts by Joe Hill
Review created: 05/07/09

I love Stephen King and was very excited when I found out that one of his children has decided to follow in his father's large shoes. He has done a wonderful job of filling those shoes so far and I am excited to see any future works that he will have..

  Ghosts
Review created: 05/09/08

If you have read his 1st novel Heart Shaped Box, you will appreciate 20th Century Ghosts. Some people say that he will never be the writer of the same caliber as his father, and they are right. However I really think that is not what he would want. Don't we all want to be who WE are. I will buy his next book when it hits the shelves, and be thankful that I've found another author that can make me forget the world around me while I enter his.

A HUGE disappointment after reading his first book,Heart Shaped Box.This book of short stories by Stephen King's son fell far short of his first book in suspense and horror. Only a few of the stories had that element of making your stomach twist at the end, Abraham's Boys being one.I will buy Hill's third book, when it comes out,to make my final decision as to whether he is as his father-exceptional-or just a flash in the pan.

Not a bad read, although some stories were not really what I'd call horror or ghostly. My favorites in this collection: "Best New Horror" (now this was horror!), "Abraham's Boys" (a cross between vampires & the movie "Frality"),and "Voluntary Committal".
Don't expect Joe Hill to be his father (Stephen King), but he's not bad.

Joe Hill --my new favoite author
Review created: 01/20/08

Collection of short stories carefully and hauntingly written. As Stephen King's son, the legacy of mesmerizing storytelling continues with new and awesome power. I loved this book. The only thing I could be remotely disappointed in was that I wished the book would never end...!

I haven't read all the stories yet but the first two were very very good - just like dear ole' Dad - Joe Hill will be around for awhile I hope - he has the storytelling gift and this book I'm sure will become another of my favorites...

  20th Century Ghosts

I bought this book, by Joe Hill, as a Christmas gift for a friend. I have read other Joe Hill work and enjoyed it emensely. Being as my friend likes the same literature as I do, I figured it was a winning gift. Joe Hill is an up and coming author. If family history means anything he will be successful for many years to come. The fact that Joe has elected to stay in the horror genre, as his father, is admirable. Joe has his own unique way of telling his stories that make him,"His own man". This book is only the beginning of what only promises to be among more great ones to come.
