Krause Publications' answer to Beckett's annual Almanac provides the serious collector with a more complete resource center to keep track of value. In addition, I find that the Standard Catalog includes many "oddball" and magazine releases not found in Beckett. I also appreciate the listings in this book by year and printer, instead of release title. First-time editor Don Fluckinger has made some cosmetic upgrades to individual listings, such as more frequent use of multipliers, but still uses only one value column. The values are also uniformly less than Beckett's and are closer to the hammer prices on eBay. This feature should give the collector/investor a more accurate idea of the current market. I use both books in my hobby pursuit equally and would recommend that room be made on the bookshelf for this one, at least every other year.

The 2008 Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards is a great comprehensive guide to baseball card listings. There are many listings of old, rare, and regional sets. This guide lists many that the Beckett Almanac omits. This isn't the best guide for minor league cards or baseball memorabilia even though some are included. I would buy this product again.

) Great book, has just about every card issued in the sport from all companies, many long out-of-print. Great glossary as well, making it easy to locate the years and brands. Use it everyday for reference.

Baseball Card GuideI love this guide. I had the 2003 Guide and this one is even better. Must have if you like to buy vintage and odd ball cards as it has probably a listing for every card or card like image ever made.

Definitely a catalogThis is an exhaustive reference, or even encyclopedia, for baseball cards. I love that it's so comprehensive. Although it may not have EVERY single card that has ever been produced, it sure comes close.
I love that the book gives quick summaries for sets of cards produced (for those who want background info or just like history).
And remember, the pricing in this guide is just that - a ROUGH guide. Use it as a reference, NOT as a replacement for more popular card valuation methods.
One issue I do have is regarding how it's set up. Cards are listed by manufacturer, then by year (into two sections; vintage [pre-1980] and modern [post-1980]). Most other price guides are listed by year, then manu. It takes a little time to get used to. The index in the back definitely helps.
