2002 US FIRST DAY COVER CATALOGUE AND CHECKLIST

This is a handy pocket-sized guide to all US FDCs. It is written by Michael Mellone and consists of 273 pages. It uses the Scott numbering system and has columns for single, block, and plate block FDCs, and for ceremonial programs.

It does a good job of picturing first cachets for many cachet makers but you will need another reference source to identify cachets after that. The end has three value segments: a PNC FDC part, an inaugural cover list, and lastly three pages of WW2 patriotic covers.

The lines of FDC information contain number, description, date and location of issue, quantity, and prices. Expect for the 1990’s onward, there is an image for each issue to help you in the identification. The book is quite complete but the advanced collector would be better served by the Photo Encyclopedia of cacheted FDCs by the same author.
