2001 - A Space Odyssey (2007, HD DVD)

I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THIS MOVIE FOR IT'S ORIGINALITY. THE INCREDIBLY STIMULATING CINEMATOGRAPHY HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN A LEAGUE OF ITS OWN AND THE HD VERSION SOLIDIFIES THIS THOUGHT. I'VE HAD MANY WONDERFUL CONVERSATIONS WITH FRIENDS OVER THE YEARS AS TO THE MEANING OF THIS MOVIE AND HAVE YET TO FIND TWO PEOPLE WHO FEEL THE SAME WAY. I'VE DECIDED TO QUIT TRYING TO UNDERSTAND "THE STORY" AND JUST SIT BACK AND ENJOY THE DAZZLING IMAGES AND MUSIC. JUST SIT BACK AND ENJOY THE RIDE!
I REALLY ENJOYED THE SPECIAL FEATURES PORTION OF THE DISC. THERE ARE SOME GREAT INTERVIEWS THE KUBRICK'S COLLABORATORS AND THE COMMENTARY BY KEIR DULLEA AND GARY LOCKWOOD IS ENLIGHTENING. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

I saw this movie when it was first shown in the local theater in 1968. Stanley Kubrick brought out the best in Arthur C. Clarke when they worked together to make this movie.

When it was released it so far advanced technologically that many people hated the movie. However true Sci-Fi fans loved it.

The way Clarke brought space to life in this movie was years ahead of it's time. You have to remember that in 1968 only a hand full of humans had ever even been in space, let alone established colonies or built ships large enough for anyone to live in.

2001 is one of the best space movies ever made and I highly recommend all Sci-Fi fans to add this one to their collection.

Product arrived in condition described and in a timely manner. I wnat to continue to increase my HDDVD library even though the format is dead.

2001: A Space Odyssey is the best film ever made. A lot of people don't understand the film. "There no dialog during the first 25 minutes of the movie" "Men dressed up in bad ape costumes." "Poor special effects." The idea behind this film is that it IS a film. Not radio. The addition of classical music makes the film even more enjoyable. It's meant to be a VISUAL masterpiece. The "lack of dialog" is used to let the viewer explore their own feelings and thoughts about the film and the idea that it represents. It also poses the question, "are we alone in the universe?" The "men dressed in bad ape costumes" represents the dawn of man, in that difficult time when the human race was emerging. The "poor special effects" are still some of the best, even by today's standards. People say, "there are so many questions that aren't answered at the end of the film". That is to let the viewers come to their own conclusions. Think of the Monolith as a tool that is made to help the human race.

I just purchased this HD-DVD this week and I've watched it twice so far. This is a fantastic film made even better in HD. Everything about this film is enhanced on HD-DVD, the color, the sound. In addition the special features are great as well. I would definatly recommend this film to anyone, it is one of Stanley Kubrick's best films.
