domination of duke

This was the greatest performance ever in an ncaa mens basketball championship game. Offense, defense, etc. The 1990 UNLV team was one of the greatest collections of talent ever in college basketball. The domination of this game led to Duke seeking revenge in the national semifinal just one year later. Without that motivation, I doubt Duke would have had it in them to pull off the biggest upset in their school history. Revenge is a powerful weapon when used well. But about this game, Anderson Hunt, Greg Anthony, Larry Johnson, Stacey Augmon, and David Butler were an extremely talented starting 5. They are the ones who put an end to the run of LOYOLA MARYMOUNT in the tourney, and they did it in impressive fashion 131-101. That was the end of the best 5 year stretch in that schools history riding the emotions of losing friend and teammate Hank Gathers, one of the best small forwards in NCAA history overall. So you look at what Vegas accomplished that year, they did it all. I think if you take that team and put them against any national champion of any year and they win at least 8 out of every 10 games. They made the 2-3 ameoba zone defense a catalyst for what we see today in variations. We see the 1-3-1 zone trap of Syracuse and Michigan, we see all kinds of teams use pressure half court defense to suffocate the other teams offense. They were impressive. This game is a must for any basketball fan who wants to see a team at its best.
