1955 Franklin Half Dollar purchased for 2 X's its silver content (melt value).
Historically the premium has been 4 X's melt value. Lowest Franklin half dollar mintage was year 1955. 20 coin rolls of Franklin 55's continue to sell at ~$18 per coin on ebay. When silver prices in the wholesale silver bullion market drop, silver coins hold their asset value better. NOTE: EACH FRANKLIN HALF DOLLAR CONTAINS .36169 TROY OZ OF PURE SILVER. THERE ARE 7.23 OZ's OF SILVER IN A 20 COIN ROLL OF FRANKLINS.
I like to buy franklins because their market works according the laws of multiplicity. Its all multiplication. I search coins and paper money listed on ebay for "55 franklin"; ending in the next 5 hours.
The only down side to owning silver is that it needs to be stored and should be inventoried. WARNING: I ALSO PURCHASE GUNS ON GUNBROKER.COM.
