  Vertical Scolling Shoot-Em' Up

Rather good shooter, set in the Pacific theater during WWII. The goal is to reach Toyko. Game-play gets repetitive. You pilot a plane called the "Super Ace". Controls allow you to shoot, roll, and loop-de-loop. There is an alternating 2-player mode. Ammo replenishes itself. You can see where great games like "Tiger Heli" came from after playing this game!

This brings back old memories and creating new ones w/ my son. I have recently purchased an old Nintendo set up. My son plays this more then he does all his other much newer systems. He says wow I love these old games! Thanks, I said, and they're not that old (punk)

  1942 Great game
Review created: 07/03/09

Its a pretty good game, I found it to be quite a bit harder than 1943 since you have only one shot and youre dead. But its still a great game and well recommended.

  Classic Shooter
Review created: 04/28/09

Your goal is to terminate as many enemy enemies as possible to build up a high score. While dodging enemy fire, you'll also have to be careful for kamikaze planes and other weapons of war. With power-ups to collect and a loop-dodge ability, you'll need to defeat stage after stage including bosses until you go down.

  1942 for the NES
Review created: 02/03/09

This is a good game if you want some old-school, button-mashing fun. It isn't as good as it's older brother 1943, but it brings back great memories of a fun game from your childhood. It isn't as good as I remember it, but the classic feel is there. From the HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE music, to the cool bosses, 1942 is definatly worth an "Average" rating to old-school gamers.

One Vs. a Million: Sounds Like Pretty Good Odds to Me
Review created: 05/11/03

Pros:
Fantastic gameplay, not too hard, pretty long

Cons:
Repetitive, not too impressive to look at or listen to

I can't really explain it. When I owned a Nintendo Entertainment System, I had an uncontrollable affinity for 1942. I mean really, it's not like there aren't about a zillion other video games that give you one little plane with which you have to shoot down the hundreds of thousands of other planes whose sole mission is to destroy you. Somehow, this one just always felt right. Wasting hours away when I was younger, I would go for score, I'd go for levels, I'd look for any excuse I could to play this simple, wonderful shoot 'em up. I was young then, and not a very good gamer, so I never beat...

Pros:
It's 2-player, and you get to blow up a lot of enemy fighters.

Cons:
lots of graphical break-up, repetitive levels, and the sound - UGH!

Ah...1942. Capcom releases vertical-scrolling shooters like this only once in a lifetime. Well, not exactly. First, it gets placed in arcades, and then later gets ported onto NES. It's simple and easy to play for just about anybody, but the game just seems to drag on too long. Story: From what I can remember, there really isn't much of a story to this game. You take control of a WWII-era fighter jet and fly into enemy territory (although I have no idea which enemy) and fight against an entire continent's worth of planes, biplanes, and fighter jets. It's not much, but hey...it was 1985....
