The 13th Warrior

The first part of this movie is based on a true story told by an Arab ambassador from Baghdad to Volga Bulgaria, the Arab actually meets Russian traders on the Volga River and their chief dies and he observes the funeral where a slave girl is sacrificed and the chief's long ship is burnt with him and the sacrifices in it and then buried, after that the story is pure fiction. The movie was filmed in British Columbia, and the river in the movie is much much smaller than the Volga. Some of the armor in the movie does not fit the period, in the 800AD era Russian warriors wore only chain mail armor and iron helmets, not plate armor.
At the time the Mongols were not a threat either as indicated in the movie.
The fictional part of the movie is a little far fetched as there are Neanderthals in the movie who have been dead for 30,000 years.
All in all it was a good movie if you like action movies, the acting was good also. I am adding the movie to my collection.
