two wrestling games are godlike...this is one...

As a person who's played nearly EVERY wrestling game since the Nintendo 8-Bit days. I've been able to play and enjoy all types of wrestling games. Some were good, some bad. But there are two games that are pretty much almost flawless, their so good, its scary. Those games are Nintendo 64's WWF No Mercy and Playstation 2's WWE Smackdown! Here Homes The Pain. The former presented gameplay that to this day, has yet to be matched, a simulation of pro wrestling so accurate, you felt like you were watching real life. Then there is Smackdown Here Comes The Pain. A game that has alot of things and does everything great. A wrestling game which has yet to be topped. It's not the perfect pro wrestling simulation...but its a very good one that gives the player alot of choices. What makes this game standout is the sheer gigantic number of options this game offers for almost everything and the excellent way in which it achieves those options. Loaded with every WWE wrestler from 2001-2002 plus some bonus legends of the past. Everything match gimmick WWE is famous for including the Elimination Chamber. The Elimination Chamber has been used in Smackdown vs Raw, Smackdown vs Raw 2006 and Smackdown vs Raw 2007...none of which improved upon the original as presented here in Smackdown Here Comes The Pain. In fact, with every wrestling game released after this one, the elimination chamber matchup got worse and worse. Less camera angles, no glass pod breaking, less glitter. Games shouldn't get worse overtime. Which is why this game still stands the test of time. No wrestling game for gamecube, xbox or playstation 2 has met the standards that Smackdown Here Comes The Pain met. Smackdown vs Raw 2007 even took away a few matches apparently in favor of GM mode. This is a fantastic wrestling game, great graphics, great controls, great sound and very good gameplay that along with N64's WWF No Mercy stands as one of the best wrestling games ever made, highly recommended to all wrestling fans whom want to go at it, in a video game. A+++++

Maybe because it's the only Smackdown title with Goldberg and being a Goldberg fan, that's what did it for me. The CAW is very involved, but if you're an artist, the sky's the limit as to the amount of characters you can create. I bought it because I enjoy recreating Brock Vs Goldberg without the na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-hey-hey-hey-goodbye chants. An excellent addition to my growing sports entertainment catalog of games. Kudos to THQ!

Though it is now a little old, this is one of the most fun smackdown games to date. The game is really easy to pick up & play. I had many hours of playing this alone & playing with my friend. Tons of fun. The story mode is almost endless and it's good and you can use anyone.

Great Wrestling Game, it's near perfect.

Fast shipping, game is in great condition, I have played this game when it first came out and some how lost it, and I was hoping to find it again, and cheap too, which that was great. The seller was great and had no problems with him or the game.

  By far, the best!

This is by far one of the best wrestling games out there today! The fighting controls are so easy to master, and there's really no shortage of customizable items for your own wrestling character. My friends and I first played this game back in 2004 and were instantly hooked. We created characters ranging from ourselves to Jesus, to Satan, to Hellboy, you name it. It's such a fun game and it really isn't difficult at all to master. Lots of main events to choose from, as well as stadiums. If you're looking for a good multiplayer fighting game and are bored with the standard Virtua Fighter clones, then try this for a change!

my son asked me to buy this game for him for his birthday, so i got it for him, the graphics are really cool and from what he tells me there is so much more to do then the previous smackdowns, my sons 10 and it was not at all to difficult for him, but at the same time challenging , i think any male young or older who is into wrestling should get this game, it gets rid of a lot of stress too lol

Average at best but don't tell my 7 year old nephew
Review created: 12/23/06
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

My nephew got this as an early X-mas present. I played it a couple of times and while it's not hard to learn, i found it quite average as a game. It moves slow and it's just not all that entertaining. Too many gimmicks make it hard to figure out.

There a lot of moves. Perhaps it could have a story line . Or perhaps we should get another controller.

All in all if you are looking for wrestling games pass. My nephew would enjoy any of them, but I just don't think this one is up to par.

WWE Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain

It has good play control which to me is as important as graphics, which on this game is pretty good. I bought it because my buddies and I played it all the time when we were deployed to Afghanistan, and I wanted to see if it was still as good as I remember it being. The only problem I have is the lack of different storylines in the season mode, they are the exact same whether you play on Raw or Smackdown, a few differences would habve been nice.

It is a better game then the first one. Is a great game for adding to your collection. The graphics are good and is good. But seems like they got lazy on the season mode.

Oldie but FREAKING GOODIE! New games cannot touch it!
Review created: 01/16/10

This was the pinnacle of wresting games..Back when they didn't try to make you think it was a TV broadcast and allowed you to thoroughly enjoy the game. I have played every single wrestling game ever released into the mainstream..The Indy games I haven't but, all the WCW-WWF-ECW games I have gotten a chance to play from all systems from Nintendo NES til now and honestly, this game does outpace them in the overall enjoyment factor.. I personally do not give a damn about updated rosters..It's like football games..After 2K5 was the last competitor for EA, the games are NOTHING more than roster updates..I updated the rosters on my my PS2 version of 2K5 and it was NO different except my team sucked even more! (Rams) Who cares about updates, if the game itself is crap?? And the controls are crap? I hate the new controls and I altogether stopped playing the new games and I will only play the newer games..When they come out with a wrestling game that allows me to once again use the buttons for grapples and stuff, I will buy them.. Why change a formula that's worked for a decade of wrestling games????? They just changed it to make the minuscule amount of new content in Smackdown vs Raw 2007 look more substantial, now it is stuck as the default control scheme..At least you could change it to the standard, normal controls...Give the older games a chance, since most of you are to young to remember the original smackdown, That was a good game but this, is the last GREAT wrestling game...It delivers everything it promised, and didn't over-promise anything..Feels nice to get something similar to what you are expecting let alone WHAT youy are expecting..Something you won't see it ANY medium today..Games or not..Give this one a sporting chance!

  Here Comes the Awesome
Review created: 01/12/10

This game was great, large viariety of characters and arenas, and game modes. I also enjoyed the character creator, I had a lot fun making a character though a large variety of items and things. Even though the game may be slightly old the graphics are somewhat exeptional for the ps2. The controls are not a problem. So if you are a WWE fan I would consider getting this if you haven't!

  Best Wrestling Game Out There!!!!
Review created: 09/27/09
by:

I love Here Comes the Pain. It is one of my favorite wrestling games out there. This game enables you to go beyond wrestling and beyond hardcore..even beyond extreme hardcore. You could go on helicopter and jump down from there or you can climb so many obstacles and jump off its just so freaking awesome. This is actually the 3rd time I have purchased this game. I haved purchased so many other wrestling genre and all of them didn't seem to have all the cool feature you could of done in Here Comes The Pain (i.e. set how many finisher to start of with, weapons, places to climb, and places to go). I would definitely recommend this game and maybe Shut Your Mouth also those are great games.

  WWE Here Comes The Pain
Review created: 06/30/09
by:

One of the best games out there for the PS2! Its story mode is simple yet impressively entertaining. The Roster is perfect as it was based on the best few years of WWE Wrestling. Another thing worth of mention is the create a wrestler mode, which because it has very little limits, you are able to create indy wrestlers, wrestlers that arent in the game, celebrities or just a made up character!

My overall rating:

The Graphics are 9/10
The Sounds/Music is 9/10
The Gameplay is 10/10
The Replay Value is 10/10

Overall i give it a 9/10

I recommend this game to anyone who likes wrestling or anyone new to the sport entertainment.
