Movie Description
Director Roland Emmerich weaves myth and legend together in this epic love story. As the Ice Age is ending, the Yagahl people are struggling to survive. When Evolet (Camilla Belle), a young, blue-eyed girl is found and brought back to the tribe, their esteemed elder, Old Mother (Mona Hammond), realizes that the child is fulfilling a prophecy and will be instrumental in saving the Yagahl. D'Leh (Steven Strait) swore his heart to Evolet when she first came to the tribe, and after many years claims her as his own. But no sooner are the young lovers together, than they are torn apart by mysterious men arriving on horseback who kidnap many of the Yagahl, including Evolet, for slave trade. Determined to save his love and their people, D'Leh embarks on a rescue mission with his father figure Tic'Tic (Cliff Curtis). Along the way, they encounter different lands, new people, and strange creatures including giant birds akin to a killer ostrich.

Mixing history and fantasy, there is little (if anything) that is historically accurate in this film. Rather, Emmerich weaves together myths and legends to unite people from different lands into one force and bring down a great evil that threatens all of their civilizations. Emmerich also tackles multiple universal themes: the redemption of an outsider, the coming of age of a boy who becomes a leader, the importance of loyalty, and the discovery and understanding of new cultures. Ultimately, he tackles the age-old saga of star-crossed lovers and the power of love. Omar Sharif narrates this love story that spans mountains, valleys, deserts, and rivers.

Editorial Reviews
"More than anything, 10,000 BC is an updated version of those old Saturday matinee action films and serials, filled with hair-breadth escapes, wild coincidences, things foretold by ancient prophecy and mysterious places..."
Los Angeles Times - Kenneth Turan (03/07/2008)

3 stars out of 5 -- "A good-looking, inventively clad cast interact among dizzying layers of CGI, visual and sound special effects to make a preposterous prehistoric adventure quest that is undeniably spectacular."
Empire - Angie Errigo (05/01/2008)

"An early mammoth-hunting sequence...is genuinely impressive, with CGI attending to each wind-ruffled, pachydermic hair."
Sight and Sound - Samuel Wigley (05/01/2008)

      AN AMAZING MOVIE

This movie received a lot of mixed reviews, but despite any bad ones, it made an astounding $94,770,548 at the box office and the DVD rental and sales are making this movie one to be remembered, even if SOME of the critics did not like it.
Personally, I EXTREMELY enjoyed this movie SO much, that I watched it several different times. Steven Strait (who played in Undiscovered and The Covenant) was an absolutely brilliant choice to play D'Leh. I don't believe any other actor could have given this character the life that Steven Strait gave him.

This movie brilliantly weaves myth and legend together and even though it has a "Braveheart" type feel to it, it is indeed an epic love story that is unique in its own way as well. The plot of the story is that the Yagahl people are struggling to survive and are on the verge of starving. When Evolet (Camilla Belle),the blue-eyed girl is found and brought back to the tribe, the elder, whom they all call "Old Mother" tells her people that the child with the blue eyes has been sent to their tribe by the Yagahl fathers (spirits of old tribe members) and that she is there to fulfill a prophecy that will save the Yagahl.
D'Leh (Steven Strait) and Evolet are smitten with one another from the day she first came to live with his people after the "four legged demons" killed her entire family and village. Their love is a sweet and innocent love that grows over the years and draws you even more into the movie. When they are older, D'Leh wins the white spear after killing the manic (mammoth) and claims her as his woman. But they are torn apart by the Four Legged Demons that kidnap her as well as many of the Yagahl brothers and sisters, forcing them into slavery and sending D'Leh on a journey to save her and his people.
D'Leh , along with his great Uncle, Tic'Tic embark on a journey that brings out the great Warrior in D'leh that he never knew he was. Along the way, they come across prehistoric giant birds that want them for dinner, as well as D'Leh and his unforgettable encounter with the "spear tooth" (Sabertooth Tiger) that is also one of my fav parts of the movie.
D'Leh and Tic Tic also meet different tribes of people, with many interesting characters who have also had their people stolen by the "four legged demons", and join D'Leh as he leads them to the Temple of the Gods, and to fight against an army that serves a man that calls himself the "Almighty" and claims to be a God.
If you want an accurate film about life in the year 10,000 B.C. then this is not the movie for you, as it has a wonderfu mix of history and fantasy but does not truly depict what history tells us about life in that era. It does however weave together myths and legends that is extremely entertaining and is so worth watching.
Within the story of D'Leh and his Great Uncle meeting all different types of unique people from different lands and uniting with them to bring down the evil people that stole and killed their people, a beautiful love story is also one of the many great reasons to watch this movie. D'Leh walks to the ends of the Earth to free his one and only love, Evolet, and we get to watch him on his unforgetable journey to free her.
This is definately worth buying...and gets even better with each time you watch it, as you get to see and experience different things with each viewing.

10,000 BC - All I can say is OMG

This movie has all the hype and all the special effects and lives up to the expectations someone would have in that regard.

Beyond that all I can say is Oh My God!!!!

10,000 B.C. is so far off base it is actually kind of funny. I fully expected to be taken back to the year 10,000 BC and shown what life was like for those living at the time. However I was not taken back to any time I could believe in and that left me very disappointed. On top of that, the story line never really captured my interest and the acting was only average (maybe even a bit below average).

If you want to know what life was like in 10,000 BC, this movie will (in my opinion) NOT show you.

If you want to see some good special effects, then go ahead and buy the movie.

If you want to see a great movie, watch something else.

I rate this movie a 3 out of 5 only because of the special effects.
