1-2-3 Magic by Thomas W. Phelan Ph.D. (1996, Paperback, Revised)

The book is in good shape but if you are gonna buy a book for $.85 and resell it on ebay for $5.00, take the $.85 price tag off first. I still think I got a deal paying what I did for it. The shipping was fast and the book is in good shape.

The book seems provides a simple method to gain control over difficult situations with your child. My son is not 2 yet so I'm not sure he will quite understand but I'll be prepared in a few months. The book is easy to understand & gives great scenarios & step by step instructions.

I had been looking for this book, as I have had training on using this method and want to be able to share it with the families that I work with. I would recommend this book to any parent, and would say that the earlier one starts, the better! This is an effective mothod of discipline and is very helpful in dealing with problem behaviors. Although it has been around awhile, it proves that sometimes the most effective works are the ones that stay around.

Defines 2 types of confrontations - how they differ and what to do about it. Easy to understand theory - up to you to put in place. Really establishes parental role - what it should be.

love it love it, the book has given us new insite into the ways to get things done a great book for the enhancing our relationship it takes time but its working.

This is a GREAT book for anyone who, like me, was stressed about their "out-of-control" angel of a child. The book uses humor to teach about their discipline system and it makes for an easy and enjoyable read. And guess what IT WORKS!!! It is MAGIC!!! I decided to buy this book after my 3 year old son's pediatrician recommended it and a psychologist tried to tell me that my child was ADHD, turns out he just needed a more consistent form of discipline. Would definately recommend and not only as a read for mom, but my husband, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother all read it so that my son's discipline remains consistent.

This book is amazing! I love it & it's really working! My child likes that the approach is simple, and we love that they respond so quickly.

Follows the videos very closely but gives slightly more detail. Program works well with all children

My daughter is raising her twin girls using this "system". I ordered a second copy so their aunt could use it, but despite paying for expedited delivery, it took two weeks for it to arrive. Too late.

My son is autistic and I was constantly having difficulties with his behavior getting aggressive and both of us getting so frustrated that his increased head-banging was cause for concern. A friend of mine referred me to this book and I looked it up on E-bay for a fraction of the new price and purchased it. WOW - what a difference. I think as a parent, we get caught up in the emotions of following the rules that we fail sometimes to see the black and white of it all. Great book and the head-banging has subsided. We now play instead of cry and scream.

I have what I consider a son in the terrible two's. This book helped me see that he isn't as bad as I thought he was, but it gives GREAT advise on how to manage you and your family and a great way to handle discipline. I like this because it focuses on the positive and not just the negative. This title was recommeded to me by my pediatrician. It's a must!!!

One of the greatest books next to On Becoming Baby Wise! It will let you actually be a parent and enjoy the joy of having children. It is a must in every household as well for anyone who deals with children.

This is the third time I have purchased this book because it worked so great with my kids that now I give it to parents who are frustrated with their own parenting style and who are searching for a new way to deal with bad behavior by their own children. I am also planning to order a bunch to give as registration gifts to parents of children attending my day care as well.

This book makes alot of sense! The scenarios it describes between the parents and children are so similar to what goes on with my child. I was laughing while reading it because I can really relate to what they are talking about. Believe it or not, this book really does work. Your child won't know what to think at first, but will catch on. It is a little hard to remember to use the 1-2-3 system when your child pushes you to the max, but it is alot easier when you do remember to use it. All you do is count. No arguing or spanking. It sure saves the nerves!

I work with children with mental health diagnoses that often lead to behavioral problems. The process for dealing with inappropriate behaviors in 1-2-3- Magic work as successful behavioral interventions for many of the children I work with. I decided to buy it so I would have it as a reference for myself and could share it with parents and caregivers.

It was working by the end of the 1st day.....My son know says "no counting mommy". The hardest part has been getting my husband and older (teens) siblings to use it properly :( I would highly recommend this book (product) to any parent that is dealing with behavior issues.

I learned about this book from the mother of a 3 yr old who had been truly obnoxious, but is now well-behaved. My great niece just turned 2. I bought the book, read it, gave the book to my niece, and am practicing the principles now. web1785

realistic book,it has great information on understanding childrens thinking. I bought the book before my children got out of hand i wanted to take charge now rather than later. Its simple and easy you just have to stick to it and make sure you do as the book says. my kids are behaving and actually listening to me. it worked great on my 2,5 year olds

I think if someone can actually get down the patterns and 1-2-3 the book explains that it will be a great option to discipline. I am having trouble because my child is 9 and I've been doing it the oposite way all of his life and it can be confusing at times. I am still trying to get it down right and I do see a improvement!

I have just begun implementing this new system with my 2 1/2 yr old. It is ALREADY starting to work. One thing to keep in mind, just like the book says, they will get worse before they get better...and that is a good thing, it means it's working.
I highly recommend this book.

This book was recommended by a psycologist. I found it on Ebay and it was very inexpensive. I have not finished reading the book yet but so far it has been interesting and very much an eye opener.
