It is hard to believe you can squeeze near a thousand cd's in such a small piece of machinery. Not only that, if you have WIFI connectivity, you can also surf the web at a very efficient downloading speed! You can check stocks, weather, get directions to and from your destinations and their maps. You can also store your contacts, events and reminders for those events in your agenda, along with alarms and such. Overall, I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a first-time mp3 player or for a replacement for their old one. There's an infinite amount of additional gadgets for whatever use you intend on giving it. Whether it is while in your vehicle, when you're exercising or simply to listen to tunes, this device has become indispensable to me personally in less than a month. The only con I see is battery life! Make sure you go to settings and adjust your auto-lock on it for a minute or two at the most, that way your display screen does not stay on for long. I also suggest you take away all key sounds. However, most importantly, remember to turn your WIFI connectivity off when it's not being utilized. Those setting modifications will grant you the 20-24 hours of battery life it is advertised for. Otherwise, don't be surprise if the battery only lasts you 6-8 hours. It's so easy to use. It works so well. I still have no idea how the thing can flawlessly recognize which of the tiny on-screen keys that my fat fingers are pressing...but it does. I really wanted an iPhone but unfortunately I recently moved to an area that doesn't have AT&T coverage. It's not just a case of no 3G...there's NO COVERAGE at all here so I switched to Verizon. They have a tower right across the street from me so coverage is great .. but no iPhone. On a whim I bought a used 32GB iPod Touch at a great price on ebay. The thing is AMAZING. If you have WiFi - or can get to a hotspot the Touch allows you to surf amazingly fast. Sure, it doesn't operate as widely as the iPhone with EDGE and 3G...but it's the next best thing...and it's 32GB. I've been using PDAs / Pocket PCs for MANY years. I had one of the orginal Apple Newton Message Pads (the 120) and more than a few HP and Dell (and other) Pocket PCs. NONE of them can even come close to the iPod Touch for functionality, ease of use, speed browsing webpages, etc. And it's thinner, more graceful and it just works. The "pinch" zoom function, auto-rotating screen and finger swiping (NO MORE CRAPPY STYLUS!) work wonderfully. As for the "traditional iPod" music player function... it's the best! I've got a 2nd gen Nano and the Touch's interface is just SO much easier to use. You can just "glide" through all of your media easily with a finger swipe. And finally, there's the video. The screen size is about the minumum that I can comfortably watch. It's just right. It's small enough to fit in your pocket yet very watchable. Thats why i bought one of my own. But the seller tried to rip me off. What he sent me was a knock off. That doesnt do half of the stuff an ipod does. When you turn it on it shows some chinese words instead of the apple trade mark symbol. You have to press hard on the screen to get anything to work. When i hook it up to my computer and itunes it calls it a generic storage unit and not an ipod. itunes dont even recognize it as a mp3 player. It is not wifi capable like ipod touches are. One top of that the top box that it came in says its a 32gb ipod touch. But the bottom box says its a 16gb touch mp4 player. The back of the mp3 player has a sticker of the apple trade mark on it. I was pretty mad when i found out i could've gotten it for much cheaper if i waited (and in a newer model). But the fact that it is not the "newest" doesn't negate the fact it is a superb piece of technology. The only differences between this model and the second model is a few tweaks such as physical volume controls and an internal speaker. It centers mostly around the ability to have access to a Wi-Fi Hotspot, which that alone has its positives and negatives. Most of the features that it carries, i.e. weather, stocks, email access, etc., are features that you can only use with Wi-Fi. And with that you must have it configured to most hotspots. The browser is not a "Plug and Play" type connection. Just more to add on the occassional hurdles that must be accomplished with operating this. Overall, you will find that navigating to the Videoes, music, photos, and other items that you load on the iPod is very easy. It is also nice with the bigger screen. The movies that I have watched on there are awesome, and I plan on using the iPod Touch always when I watch a movie on the go. Don't get me wrong: When the Wi-Fi is working, it is among the best for on the go internet browsing. I remember when Wi-Fi started becoming popular and all you could do to catch it was lug around your big assed laptop. Then it went to PDA's that needed SD cards to catch the Wi-Fi. Now you can hold something the size of 2 credit cards in your hands and have access to anything. My experience with the Wi-Fi is limited so I do not know about download speeds, connecting to iTunes, and all that, but the idea of being able to download something straight to the iPod sounds great. We will see how well it works. I only hope that when I download the file, I can load it on my computer and use that song/movie for my other iPod. We will see. Pro: 1. Outstanding aesthetics/industrial design – head and shoulders above its competitors, in fact an impressive achievement. Makes my Palm Tungsten C look antediluvian. The form factor, for a combined MP3 player/photo album/video and movie player/Wi-Fi web surfer/email device, etc., etc., is amazing: it's only 8 mm thick. 2. The software is awe-inspiring. I thought Palm software was good, but the elegance of the iPod touch software blows Palm out of the water. (Much of the software is similar to the iPhone's.) 3. I was able to import all my Contacts and Calendar events from my Palm, and all my Contacts and Groups from my Gmail account, with very little effort, and with all information intact. (For those who have complained about the absence of Calendar, Contacts and Notes on the iPod touch, the January, 2008 software update added all three.) 4. I have read on the Internet some criticism of the sound quality (a hiss), but the sound quality on my copy is excellent; no extraneous noise at all. 4. While it comes with very skimpy printed documentation, the online manual is extremely detailed (>90 pages), and Apple's online support material is excellent. I haven't had to call Apple's support line for any reason. Cons: 1. It's expensive: $500 for the 32GB version. Fortunately I was able to get this one on eBay for substantially less. (I'm eligible for Apple's education discount, but the iPods and the iPhone are not discounted at the Apple Education Store.) Quality doesn't come cheap. 2. It doesn't have a camera, but adding a camera to the feature set would have made it bulkier, and I prefer a slimmer device. 3. Equalizer settings must be made in iTunes, rather than on the iPod touch. (Correction: This is not entirely true. There are some preset equalizer options available on the iPod touch by going to Settings>Music>EQ.) Summary: Although expensive, the iPod touch 32GB is an impressive achievement, both from the hardware and software viewpoints. I have been an Apple computer user since 1985, and have owned a dozen Apple computers in addition to many Apple peripherals and previous iPods, but I have been more impressed with the iPod touch than with any previous Apple product. I don't own an iPhone, as I'm perfectly happy with my provider (Verizon) and my Samsung cell phone, but buying the iPod touch was for me a very easy decision, which I have not regretted.
