The display is bright and light-sensitive, meaning it will automatically adjust to the surrounding light. The built-in wireless lets you surf the web as if you were on your desktop at home. Since most places and airports offer free wi-fi, you can check email and scores on Safari, and be able to see regular websites, not text only or 'mobi' versions. PROS: small, thin, widescreen, built-in wi-fi and Safari browser CONS: if you loved the click-wheel, then I guess not having one would be a con Initial small storage sizes, which will increase when flash storage technology increases, likely in next year's release. I've always used what's now called the iPod Classic and have been very happy with it. I knew going in the iPod Touch wouldn't hold all my music but I was hoping the new features would make it worth my while to have to sort and pick what I wanted to carry with me. My mistake. Don't get me wrong, the touch screen is really cool. BUT... First, the Touch will only change songs when you touch exactly on the control. This is hard when driving (which is basically when I used mine), not to mention a driving hazard. I was completely distracted. Second, there's no way to keep it from going to widescreen mode, so whenever you even just set it down the whole picture rotates and you have to re-rotate to change the music. This gets annoying quick. Third, there is no backlight timer, so it's always on or it's always off. Fourth, there's no lyrics!! Why this was taken away I have no idea, but I really missed having it. Five, you can't play the games you've purchased on it. There are webapps to play but you have to be in a wi-fi area. Six, the album art wasn't always correct, very screwy. To sum up I would be more than happy to try the iPod Touch again when it's next gen is introduced, but for now it needs some de-bugging and updates. This is abuse of the review process. If anyone out there in E-Bay land thinks that all will get free stuff with no consequences they are only kidding themselves. Please put a stop to these ridiculous claims stuffing and polluting the product auctions and reviews !!! Review ID: 10000000004619317 Was this review helpful? The guy I got it from, Kelvinwd901 used the wrong return address which i sent it back to. I now have neither my money back or the IPOD. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM KELVINWD901. I have submitted a claim to PayPal and we will see how that goes. Review ID: 10000000009769276 Was this review helpful? I can load third-party applications, games, and much more and load custom skins, icons, backgrounds, etc. The video is amazingly crisp and vibrant. The coverflow for albums is definitely a nice visual to complement great music. I've owned various other MP3/media players, including other iPods, and must say the the Touch is hands-down the best available on the market right now. The Apple Ipod touch is the app-solutely most fabulous ipod/mp3 player created. For the price....you get a video player, mp3 player, podcast viewer, internet surfer all in one device. Apple also provides FREE tv shows, music, videos and podcast for your viewing and listening pleasure. I got mine a few days before Christmas and I never leave home without it. After searching the web I discovered "jailbreaking" which opens it up to allow me to download 3rd party applications. This is the most single perfect device that I have ever used. I am very impressed with apple. KUDOS!!!!!!!! Review ID: 10000000004908376 Was this review helpful? Report this review 3 of 3 people found this review helpful. I bought the iPod Touch for my wife for Christmas. We both have iPod video players and wanted to upgrade. We wanted something that would be easier to carry with us during trips other than our laptops. After doing some research and trying out the Touch at an Apple Store, we both fell in love with it. It has all the features we want and need including internet access, maps, weather and of course a music player. Best part of it is that it fits right in your pocket, or pocketbook as the case may be. The only drawbacks we have found so far are somewhat minor. First, the back is shiny chrome which looks great, but scratches easy. I would recommend you buy a case for it or at least some sort of stick on protector for the front and back. I have found one for $8 that covers both sides and has no affect on the touch screen. Well worth the money to protect the shiny chrome. I am also going to buy a nice case for it that will protect it from drops and such. Don't be afraid to spend a little bit more for a nice case! You're investing a good chunk of change on the player, spend the money to protect it! After some research, the Otterbox Defender seems to be one of the best. It is a great case for the everyday person. The other issue we have found is Apple themselves. The server seems to be up and down like a yo-yo. Upgrading the software through Apple took a couple of days and we were charged 4 times for the same upgrade. Of course we are getting our money back, but it is still a pain. I was able to get through to the Apple customer reps and was able to find out that the errors we were getting were not iPod issues but Apple server issues. My wife has spent countless hours playing with her iTouch and loves it, and of course I am thrilled that I could give her a gift that she enjoys so much. There are a ton of programs and games out there for it, look around the iTunes store and other web sites to see what is available. It is amazing what you can actually do with this bad boy. We like it so much that we have bought a second one for myself. This way if we are out and about doing our own things, we can keep in touch via email and even have information at our fingertips that we may need at the moment. And to clarify, you do need internet access whereever you are at to access the browser and internet. But the way it is now adays, internet acces is far and wide. I would highly recommend the iTouch to anyone thinking of buying one. For those who think the hard drive is too small, stick with a regular iPod. With the 16 GB hard drive I can put MORE than enough music on there to keep me happy during whatever I may be doing. I don't need my whole lifes library at my fingertips to keep me happy, just enough to last a few hours or days. And that does not take up much space. There are a few choices out for iPod Touch, look each over carefully and decide what is best for you. Factor in the price, how you will use it and exactly what you want/need it for, then make a decision. I bet either way you will be pleased once you get it in hand and start to use it. I saw them in the Apple store a few weeks ago and after playing with it for a few minutes decided I had to have one. Well I bought one for my son and my husband. Great big screen, easy to use, perfect. I couldn't be happier with it. Not to mention if you have a problem with it, just take it to the Apple store and they will troubleshoot it and help you out. If they can't fix it they can replace it for a reasonable fee. Review ID: 10000000009756260 Was this review helpful? Report this review 3 of 3 people found this review helpful. It has great features;a lot of memory; easy to use, and internet access. Love the games!I had ipods before and I just got a new phone less than a year ago. I didn't feel a need to get an Iphone and felt this was a great option. I received an IPOD from an auction that was in prestine condition. I am very happy with this purchase. I can't seem to be able to put it down! Review ID: 10000000009215548 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 08/05/08 by: 3 of 3 people found this review helpful. I bought this ipod touch to resell because I got the bid at a very low price, but when I started learning what it could do I decided to keep it. Wow, this is great. It does everything my smart phone does except make calls. I sync with outlook and other office programs, read books, surf the net and more. I am going to go to a lesser phone plan (and phone) to save money. I bought a set of Bose headphones which I highly recommend. I have the 16Gig unit which I have loaded many albums on and still have not used much of the capacity. Review ID: 10000000008215432 Was this review helpful? They just put this out so I played for a little and decided to buy it... So here is my evaluation after 3 days of use. No issues with the interface as of yet with the exception of using it on the internet, for one my GMail account. You can get email but you can not respond in the body area of the return email. The keyboard will not come up. I have noted several other areas that this happens. Apple needs to give us a button to pull up the keyboard or fix the bugs that do not permit it to come up when needed. ( It pops up automatically when needed, well almost) Second issue is the brightness adjustment at lower settings flickers. Called Apple and the reset was used (wipes it out to start over) Not a real big deal but it did fix it for a while, it is back this time they said to return it. ( This takes a 156meg down load os it takes a few minutes to get it done) For as much as it cost it should have some sort of sock or cover with it, not a chance. So far I have only seen silicone covers, most of the others do not protect the edges, I am certain there are inventers/manuafacturers busy on this one...If there aren't they need to get busy, the edges will take a beating, this things slips out of your hand pretty easily. If you have big fingers the keyboard is going to be a little frustrating, especially if you are trying to do a search function on Ebay, you can not see what you typed until you close the keyboard. Fantastic sound, much better than my 60gig gen 5 IPOD, Slick interface, no games or any demos on it when purchased, There should be some. Price is varied, low is Sams Club, high is most of the buy it nows listed here, even the cost on Apples site is less. Do your homework, try one out on the sites you want to use "before you purchase" save the pain of taking it back if it does not work cause Java and flash are NOT supported. Like anything anymore, the buyer is the beta tester for this, really cool, but there are lots of things missing that should be there. Apple has always been good about all in one on their Macs but for some reason they were so taken by the neat interface they forgot to install the needed things. There could have been a camera in this thing and made it worth the sub $300. Review ID: 10000000005605954 Was this review helpful? Report this review 3 of 3 people found this review helpful. Ahhh Ebay wants me to write a reveiw about the iPod Touch. The iPod touch is wonderful, I have thoroughly enjoyed mine, its pricey but imo it was well worth it... HOWEVER.....The iPod Touch that I won on Ebay is "God Knows Where". Been well over a month and I have yet to see it, hear from the seller, OR hear anything back from my dispute and claim with Ebay and Paypal. Would I recommend, YES - but not through Ebay. Go to a reputable dealer where the chances of getting scammed are greatly reduced. I got mine on Amazon as a refurb - looks and behaves like its BRAND NEW. I've had the first and second generations, iPod with Video, Shuffle, and now the 16GB iPod Touch. Basically, the iPod Touch is the iPhone without all of the troublesome charges from AT&T! The screen is absolutely amazing. It's bright, smart enough to change it's brightness based on ambient light, made of glass to resist scratching, and with a large enough size that you can acuatlly get rid of your portable DVD player! The OS is very intuitive as you would expect from Apple and also surprisingly hassle free. I'm 6'4" and have large hands. I was concerned that I would not be able to type without errors and issues on the small screen. To my delight, this is not the case as it's remarkably easy once you get past the first day or so of use. The battery power is also quite astonishing. I listen to my iPod at least two hours a day commuting on trains/subway. I only charge my iPod about once a week if not less. I figure that I am getting at least 12-15 hours or more from a charge listening to music. This, of course, is much less if you are watching more video. The Safari browser is technology seriously at work. I use my BlackBerry Pearl when I'm out in the City for directions or to look up basic info. It's so very slow. The iPod Touch uses a full verion of Safari, and it's lightning fast. With this being the full version, you can access sites like your online banking that you may not be able to with your PDA's browser. Basically, any site you can browse from your Mac, you can browse from your iPod. You do, of course, need WiFi access to do this, which is very widespread (and growing) these days. I do have to say that I'm a bit addicted to the iTunes Music Store on the iPod. If I'm out and think of a song that I want to hear or see an ad for a new album, I can buy it and enjoy it immediately directly from the iPod. Instant musical gratification! Watch your wallets, folks. This gets out of hand if you are not careful. The YouTube feature is a cool way to waste some time. It's nothing more than the YouTube site built into the device, but who does not love YouTube videos on demand? Okay, so now for the con... The one gripe I have about the device is the 16GB storage limit. I have about 23GB of music, so I do have to filter some of it out to fit on the iPod Touch. Having said that, it really is easy to create a Smart Playlist with a set amount of music and parameters to choose said music, and still have a load of music on your player. I currently have mine about at capacity with about 2,700 songs, 21 video podcasts, two full-length movies, several music videos, and a collection of photos from my latest trip. All in all, the iPod Touch is going to give you the most (and expensive) technology in the easiest to use format that is available to humans today. I hope this helps. Enjoy your iPods! Here is a list of some of the pros and cons of the iPod touch: Pros: - The iPod touch has a very large screen. - It has a beautiful touch interface. - Very easy to navigate from one program to another (example: going from music to the safari browser). - Safari Browser and Wi-Fi built in and most web pages look great. And you can search the web while you listen to music. - iTunes built in for easy music downloading from your ipod. - Sleek and Small design. Cons: - $399.99 retail price. - Only holds 16GB. - Cannot customize background of iPod touch, only the "screensaver". Final Thoughts: If you like visual eye candy (as I do) then this is a great iPod. But if you are looking for something to hold large amounts of music you need to purchase one of the other available iPod models with larger hard drive capacities. The postive is the touch screen, flash memory, and the wifi. The negative are few except for the Safari browser not being able to download flash or java.
