If you got $600, go ahead and buy it because it's definitely worth the money.Think about it a stand alone blu-ray player costs at least $550 ALONE. This system is bundled with a wireless controller and a 60GB Hard Drive. If you're thinking about getting 20GB PS3's, say bye-bye to them because they are no longer produced in North America. Here are the pros and cons for the PS3. Pros: Great Blu-Ray Player Support from Western and Japanese Game Studios A must have if you can't live with Resistance Fall Of Men, MotorStorm, Tekken 6, Metal Gear Solid 4, the Final Fantasy series,Gran Turismo 5 & HD,LittleBigPlanet Built in Wireless Network(unlike 360 elite, core or premium, which cost $100 extra),web browser,PS Network(Downloable HD Trailers and Demos) Plays 97% PSone and PS2 games. free online gaming Cons: No rumble on the super light SIXAXIS controller HDMI/Component cables cost extra($20-$50)for the full HD experience(you only get low end composite cables) Wireless Headset cost extra Former Exclusives going to 360:Virtua Fighter 5, GTA 4 Expensive for Game-only Too much games getting delayed: MLB 07, Rainbow Six Vegas, GRAW 2. Long Loading Times:360 is 5x Faster But if you haven't still decided to get the 360 Elite or this here's the breakdown: 360 Elite: 120 GB Hard Drive, HDMI, Free HDMI Cable=$449(Better than PS3), but : $50/year for online gaming, No next-gen DVD($200 Extra), Wireless Adapter:$100= $830 for the 360 to be a Ps3. Update!!! PS3 is now only $500 for the 60gb, so the ps3 gives you more for your money. Review ID: 10000000003438562 Was this review helpful? Expensive yes, but once you use the system, you'll know why its $600. When they say unparralled graphics they mean it. Do yourself a favor if you have an HDTV, buy an HD cable. The interface is so user friendly that you'll never want to go back to anything. Built in Blu-ray player is so cash. Blu-ray is nothing less then just amazingly clear. Totally wireless controllers are great. Wi-Fi, you might not think you need it but if you have wireless internet signals itsquite amazing. It's the most amazing piece of electronics ive ever encountered. Review ID: 10000000003479921 Was this review helpful? Having had the pleasure of using the PlayStation 3 for several days, I have come to appreciate what it is and what it isn't. What it is not is a substantial leap in entertainment quality. PS3 games, for the most part, feel like PS2 games or even Xbox 360 games. In terms of the gaming experience, the new tilt sensor is the main innovation, and while it is interesting, I can't help but feel that it's mostly a gimmick. That's not to say that it's useless, but it's hardly a reason to rush out and buy a PS3. That aside, the sheer processing power is remarkable; the 7-core Cell process is several times as powerful as most modern PC desktops, and the custom NVidia graphics chipset is roughly as capable as the best graphics cards you can buy today. While the PS3's price is expensive compared to other gaming consoles, considering what's stuffed into the sleek and attractive enclosure, it's actually something of a bargain. Fortunately, the massive upgrade in computational horsepower is immediately obvious when viewed on a high-definition display. To get the most out of your PS3, you'll want a 1080P display. If you have one, you really will be blown away by the resolution and detail present in all of the new games. In fact, at 1080P, these computer-generated graphics contain much more detail than any over-the-air HD broadcast, and they're also considerably sharper than HD-DVD or Blu-ray movies, which even at 1080P suffer from various shortcomings (compression, transfer issues, focus errors, etc.) If you have a standard definition television, you'll still see an improvement, because the PS3 doesn't just up the resolution, it ups the polygon detail and lighting complexity. In fact, on the standard definition display I hooked my PS3 up to just for fun, in some ways it looked closer to reality than it did on the HD display, simply because everything was smaller, and therefore less smooth/plasticy. It's hard to explain, but there are definitely times when you can almost forget that the PS3 output is fake -- and that's not something I've experienced on my PS2 or Xbox 360 (though it comes close). However, if you only have an SD display, you definitely want to get an HD display. At 720P, the PS3 looks great, but 1080P is where you can stop seeing pixelation from reasonable viewing distances. I'll refrain from mentioning the specific games in this review, but the five that I've tried have ranged from visually impressive to visually stunning. Some other quick points: 1. The console is considerably quieter than I expected. It's hardly silent, but I was afraid it would be much louder given its internals. I'd say it's slightly quiter than my Xbox 360. 2. Audio quality is shockingly good. Hooked up to a 5.1 system with good speakers... WOW! 3. The fit and finish of the console is excellent. 4. The built-in BluRay player is fantastic, though the interface could be quicker. This is a "cheap" way to get a BluRay player, at least for now. 5. Love the HDMI port! Super easy to connect audio and video to the rest of my AV system. 6. I miss the vibrating controller of the Xbox; without it I feel somehow disconnected to the game. 7. Don't sit too close to your TV while playing... I tried it and felt sick! Overall, this is a serious jump in visual and audio quality over the PS2, a noticeable jump over the Xbox 360, and a great buy if you're into high-quality gaming. Just don't expect the games themselves to be substantially more fun Review ID: 10000000003586416 Was this review helpful? Report this review 26 of 27 people found this review helpful. This review is sort of convoluted. PS3. I think you all know the specs by now. Blue ray blah blah. Here's my honest assesment of the system. I broke down and bought one in july 07 right after the price drop. I can say I have not regretted it yet. Right now it has had no trouble playing any of my PS1 and PS2 games. So as far as I am concerned it has near 100% backwards compatibility. Another big advantage is the 60 gig HD has plenty of room for game saves. No more memory cards. Instead you make a virtual memory card on the HD and use if for the prior system games. Load times. Not really an issue. The interface is near identical to the PSP's and it allows for a rather convenient start up and shutdown of the system. PS3 games right now are lacking sadly. I personally have access to all three systems at my place. the 360 has more games now, but is comparatively more prone to breaking down. (Microsoft has already extended the warranties.)As for the 120 gig HD. A lot of wasted memory. The Wii is honestly the weakest of the 3 systems. Right now it is selling so well because it is half the price of the PS3. So my advice wait for the next price drop. or buy the 40 gig version. HD's that large have no real purpose on a console gaming system. Update 1-17-08 Warning!! DO NOT buy a 40 GB PS3 if you plan on using it to replace your PS2. The 40 GB model is the worst of the four kinds, here is why. 80 GB model Blue ray player+game play, and backwards compatibility via emulation.(not sure if it plays PS1 games)Hi def connections. price~$500.00 60 GB Model. Blue Ray+game play and fully backwards compatible to PS2 and PS1 (so far 100% sucess)Hi def connections.price~$400.00 40 GB Model. Ahhhh the good ole PS 3, blood, sweat, and tears have been poured over the systems. From shootings in the east coast to steal them from other happy shoppers, and long long lines the people have waited and camped out in to get this machine, some one week campers other overnight campers. So you ask what do i have to say about this system? Well.... It is actually a pretty great system. Yes I know there isnt many great games out for it yet and we have been waiting for the one ground breaking game but haven t seen it yet. Dont worry it is coming with some really great games coming this fall/winter and spring/summer of next year. Its just a matter of time. That would be my only problem with this system is I bought a $600 system to look at in my house. Other than that when it gets moving and gets some good games this system will be beautiful! Its even a great blue ray dvd player, music player, and self contained internet surfing tool. But that the browser for surfing the web isnt that great but can get the job done if you need to use it for some reason. I recomend using this system with a Hi-Def T.V. because some games are Hi-Def and you cant see some of the text that you need to read. That I will warn you about. Overall I think the system is good and worth the $500 if you have the money to burn. Review ID: 10000000004180214 Was this review helpful? The graphics on this system are excellent (Especially with HDMI and a HD TV)! The BluRay DVD player is a great feature as well! I also love the wireless connection that is very easy to configure! One thing that I do wish was available is the playstation and PS2 games are not able to be played on this system. Review ID: 10000000010392644 Was this review helpful? Unlike newer models, this model has full hardware support for PS2 games. It has more output ports than newer models, as well. In our house, this serves up our audio & video content from the internet, Blu-Ray discs & a Windows XP computer. It all seamlessly connects through WiFi. An HDMI cable connects the PS3 to our 1080p TV. The hard drive is easily replaced for more storage, but, because of the WiFi connections to the computer, we have no reason to do so. The 60 GB PS3 in consistently ranked as the best available Blu-Ray player, and I see why. It's easy to use, reliable, gives brilliant pictures, has a great remote control (the game controller), and can do so much more than just play games & movies. I'm very happy with my purchase. I waited in line for this on launch day--in fact, I waited 50 hours. That not considered, the original $600 price tag for this work of art was a pittance. Sony was losing hundreds of dollars on every unit. Don't compare this PS3 to the dumbed-down versions that have been produced since. Every PS3 that didn't originally have a 20gb or 60gb hard drive in it was not a steal. Only the 60gb and 20gb versions came with the "Emotion Chip", which allowed nearly perfect PS2/PS1 hardware-based emulation. This unit featured real chrome trim (20gb did not), and everything that's come since has had cheaper gray plastic. Only the 80gb Motorstorm PS3s that have come since are capable of playing PS2 games, but it is software emulated, and will not universally play all games. ALL PS3 units are capable of playing the original PS1 games. IF you are going to get a Playstation 3 and care about overall quality, invest a little more money in purchasing the 60gb version over ALL others--and invest the $40 in a squaretrade warranty. NOTE: A PS3 price drop is expected in April of 2009--unless you want a 60/20gb PS3 for playback purposes, it is recommended that you hold off on your PS3 purchase until after this point in time. The PS3 is definitely the best of the best. Perhaps its the mass amount of storage (40,60,80 GB) or the wireless internet. Maybe the free online gaming service or could it be the amazing Blu-Ray Disc graphics, You decide. There has always been the conflict,"XBOX 360 beats PS3". I dont think so. I believe that PS3 has alot mor upgraded features than XBOX. If anyone has noticed the price of 360s has dropped, you know why?, because there have been cases and when I'm talking a large amount of cases where the XBOX either stops working(Ring Of Death) or they blow up and catch houses on fire. Now do i want a system that could potentially harm me? I know I wouldn't, Microsoft has been making more and more defected 360's and it is causing some issues. Anyway what I'm trying to say is if you were going to get a good game console that is reliable I say go for PS3 because overall I think it beats 360 in a lot of fields. The price tag is gonna put a hole in your wallet but it's definitely worth the money. I mean you get a blu-ray player. Yay and blue ray stand alone is pricy already but bundled in a PS3 is a get combo. Play awesome games with great graphics and you can watch HD movies. You great features like pretty good size hard drive, wifi, and wireless control. Oh and it is black which is slimming and black goes with any everything. PROS: *The technical power of the Cell *52g Blue Ray *PS2 backwards compatibility (tons of game titles available) *Strong 3rd-party support *Controller: motion-sensing addition *Online play *1080p high definition *Web browsing *Connection to PSP CONS: *Way to expensive *Very large and bulky *High game prices *Tendency to overheat The PS3 is an amazing system; however, I do not think the cost makes it very worthwhile. I waited 3 days in line before launch to be the first to get one, and I was not impressed. Yes, the blue-ray is nice, but if you are looking for a "game" console, there are more affordable alternatives. Also, it is a very large system and pretty heavy. If I had the extra money and nothing to do with it, sure I would get a PS3 again, but it is not a system I would save up for. Review ID: 10000000004516844 Was this review helpful? I came to the one place I could find a 60GB Playstation 3. I wanted this particular unit because Sony made it backwards compatible...that means it plays old PS1 and PS2 games. The package arrived nearly a month later than I ordered it...that's just for starters. Not only was the console shipped with NO packing material, but it had a hole in the box. The hole was from the edge of the console poking through to the outside of the box. In addition to this damage, the post office put tape on it which read: RECEIVED IN DAMAGED CONDITION I did plug in the Playstation 3 and I couldn't even get a welcome screen. So, naturally I sent the package back to the seller. I not only DON'T have the $390 I paid for this item, but PayPal left me out to dry by saying I didn't have sufficient tracking information to tell them where the package was...after sending them faxes on three separate occasions. Thanks so much for reading my first product review. Sorry if it left a bad taste in anyone's mouth. nighthawkx1701 Review ID: 10000000011739045 Was this review helpful? It was shipped late, but I did get a message that it would be late. It's not fair to buy an item described as EXCELLENT condition and then have to go through hell to get a refund when it did not function properly in more ways than one. Furthermore, to take my time I found out that many people were being sold product in excellent condition that was not functioning properly. This merchant should have never been allowed to remain as an Ebayer with so many negatives and complaints of non-functioning systems. It seems quite evident that the merchant must be making Ebay too much money for them to even care about all the people who are getting poor working equipment that is advertised as in "EXCELLENT CONDITION." I bought this system for my twelve year old son's Christmas present which I told him I would buy after Christmas hoping to get it cheaper. I have never experienced an Ebayer who did not care about their customers to this degree. I sell as well, and no matter what if I sell an item in excellent condition and it does not work properly, I must give a refund if the customer requests such. It was clear that Christmas was a time used to capitalize and manipulate Ebay purchaser and sell defective equipment that had built up. Just look at the feedback of January. This seller had more defects and complaints in one month, than had occured in the previous six months! I would never ever purchase something of this expense on ebay again. The Sony PS3 60GB features a lot more than the rest. Pros: High Backwards Compatability with MOST PS2 and PS1 Titles. Almost all the PS1/PS2 titles can play with little or no problem. I haven't come across any problems and any previous problems the system had, Sony addressed them all through Previous Firmware Updates. Constant Firmware Updates Sony constantly upgrades the PS3s with their updates whether it's a patch to fix a problem or to add cool new features for us. Blu-ray Player/DVD Player & Upconverter/PSOne & PS2 Upconverter This PS3 and all others are the at a pretty good value considering Quality & Price. Movies whether it's a BD or DVD look GORGEOUS. If you're playing on an HDTV, the PS3 can upconvert your PSONE and PS2 games to HD-Quality. Free Online Service Till this day, the PS3 offers FREE ONLINE GAMING. The ONLY thing you can pay for on the PS3 are Rental movies, Movies for Purchase, Games, and Add-Ons. Other than that, EVERYTHING is FREE. Hard Drive Expandability Any PS3's hard drive can be expanded to a larger capacity. However, only Laptop Hard Drives can be used (2.5"). You can use external hard drives for more storage but not as the main hard drive. Upgrades are easy and quick. I personally have upgraded my 60GB to a 320GB. The largest capacity hard drive currently is a 500GB...a lot of space and A LOT BIGGER than the Xbox 360 Elite's. (Not bashing the 360 because I own an Elite). The controllers are wireless which is also Standard. They can be charged via USB OR using the new charging hub that has been released. Today, Sony offers the DualShock 3 Controller which contains Six-Axis (Motion Sensing) and DualShock (Force Feedback). It's backwards compatible with PSOne and PS2 games also. You can register and use up to 7 controllers. You can register Bluetooth accessories, a compatible printer, etc. Media Bay, Ports, Controllers, Connectivity It has an external but hidden Media Bay to insert all sorts of media cards. It has 4 USB ports in the front which are Standard. It has Bluetooth and has built-in Wi-Fi...no need to buy any adapters for Wireless Internet. You can register your PSP and use the Remote Play Feature to access your music, movies, Playstation One games and downloaded compatible games. And much more! Processor Its processor is powerful and the 60GB contains the PS2's Emotion Engine Processor as well. This system is FUTURE PROOF. Looks Despite that it's a little bulkier than a Xbox 360, it offers a Gloss Black case with a Chrome Trim. The lettering is also in Chrome. 40GBs have that fake chrome on them. All in all, the Sony PS3 has A LOT to offer. But, I RECOMMEND the 60GB above them all considering it's Full Backwards Compatible. Cons: The only con I can think of is the price which most people complain about, other than that there are NONE. In terms of price, I believe the PS3 is priced right originally which was $600 originally. I believe so because of all the technology it brings built-in, not to mention it's Future-Proof. In the end, if you are going to purchase a PS3, don't go to the store, purchase a Sony Playstation 3 60GB here. I highly recommend it and I can assure you, you won't regret it. If you can't find it here (which I highly doubt) see if your local GameStop has any. But most likely you WILL find a good one on Ebay. Review ID: 10000000009839864 Was this review helpful? The PS3 has changed that, the resolution is super. I opebed the box, hooked it my system turned it on and it worked fine, real simple. I am waiting for an auto HDMI switch so my Samsung Blu-ray player snd the PS3 can share my HDTV's single HDMI input. True the PS3 is also excellent at playing blu-ray a dedicated blu-ray DVD player has a few options [Which would only matter to a true techno-geek] than the PS3, All things considered the PS3 is tops and the E-bay vendor is great. pp Review ID: 10000000009797595 Was this review helpful?
