WOW, incredible gameplay.

A few new things and improved in this year's version are;

-gang tackling(awesome)

-when the running back hits the line of scrimmage it pushes the oline forward instead of just hitting them and going nowhere

-botched snaps are possible(although rare)

-weather is a factor(sometimes a player can slip in wet conditions)

-also the fantasy draft option IS in franchise mode.

This game is an A++++++ 5/5 RATING!

thanks for reading and have fun!

One of the Best to Date, but can be Improved Upon
Review created: 08/17/07

The past couple next-gen versions of Madden have been basically the same game just with roster updates. This is not the case with Madden 08. Fantasy draft is back and trophy case has been added. Also, a very noticeable difference from the Xbox 360 version of this game and the PS3 version is the FPS, or Frames Per Second. Madden 08 runs at 60 frames per second on the Xbox 360 and 30 frames per second on the PlayStation 3. There have been many complaints that the PS3 version and PS2 version are the exact same thing. The game is very smooth on the Xbox 360 and because of the new animation system, you are no longer locked into animations and you have more control over your players. Features of the new animation system include mid-air collisions, one-handed catches, hurdles, sideline catches and gang tackling. Season Mode and tournaments have also been added to online play. The Hit Stick 2.0 allows players to hit high or low by flicking the right analog stick up or down. In addition, the fatigue factor has been fixed in this year's game. No more scrambling around with your quarterback for 2 minutes without getting tired. Fatigue also plays a factor when cold-weather teams play in hot weather during the early months of the season. Co-op play has also been brought back so you and a friend can play on the same team at the same time.

The presentation in the game has improved, but they are not taking full advantage of the ESPN license they acquired awhile back. Look for them to take more advantage of this in later versions of Madden. Also, Marshall Faulk hosts a segment called "Marshall's Minute" where he discusses key star players and predicts the final score of the game. "Weapons" (certain star players have "weapons" which can enhance their performances and create game-changing plays) also get special introductions before games. John Madden and Al Michaels do not do the commentary as they are replaced by the same radio voice as last year. Lastly, you are able to take over the careers of select rookies from the 2007 NFL Draft. For example, you can import your player from Campus Legend mode in NCAA Football 08 and use him in Madden's Superstar Mode.

There have been complaints about the amount of fumbles and interceptions in this game making it unrealistic but here is a thought: if you throw the ball right to a defender, he should catch the ball in real life. Still, this makes the game interesting and gives people that like to play defense and are skilled at it a reason the control the defenders. This game is great but like anything else can improve. It is fun and has a lot of modes and features that will keep you interested and playing until Madden 09.

  The Truth... In my Eyes...

This game is okay, and could have been a lot better! For instance, the ratings, the one thing that have been making me the most mad. They are completely inaccurate, not just teams overall ratings, but players ratings as well. Not saying anything, but they go by last years stats, which means that the vikings had the number 1 run defence in all NFL. BUT, all running backs get through the vikings amazing run defence:)But seriously, I don't like the gameplay at all, not the unrealstic parts of it (Longwell has missed 3 game winning field goals for, all from 30 yards out... whats up with that?) We all know, and don't try to deny it, that Longwell is actually pretty good. But to stop being a fan, I'll do some ratings...

Graphics- 9.5/10, The graphics are good, and very realistic, I have to give them that.

Gameplay- 7.5/10, There are WAY to many controls to have to remember this year, and sometimes, the fumbles are to consistent and what not...

Mini Games- 8.5/10, ----WARNING---- Not for the slow fingered, and that is no lie. You have to have VERY quick hands to do any good on these.

Realisticism(Is that a word?)- 5/10, I'm sorry, but this is all explained up their, and oh, get this. In my season the Lions are at the top of the conference and the bears are dead last... a little fishy, wouldn't you say?

Overall-3/10, If you get bored on rookie and go to pro, you won't win at pro one game, but at rookie your beating them 85-0. These rating have to be gradual, not so jumpy...

Frustration is the Name of Madden 08
Review created: 08/15/07(updated 08/16/07)
5 of 9 people found this review helpful.

The highly anticipated Madden 08 is a big disappointment.

Very frustrating gameplay even at the Pro level. Never again will you score 45 pts in a game due to High turnovers (I had 6 in my 1st game played), passing is basically not an option. Even if your receiver is wide open, the miraculous cb or s will get over and almost pick it with a laser beam throw. Even running is an issue, you highlight stick is not a factor and good luck trying to get a run over 20 yards. I've played 7 games and have had 1 20 yd run, and 1 40 yd pass. That's if your reciever doesn't drop the pass which is nearly 1/2 the time.
The only thing you could do to counter this is learn your hot routes. This seems to be the only way to throw off the defenses.

Even the plays setup screen has drastically changed from last year, and finding your go to plays is a ridiculous search.

The only positive is the "weapons" attributes given to your star players, which could change an outcome of a game, as in real life situation.

I think I'm going to stay w/ Madden 07' and play All Pro Football 2k8, then I will save money on the controllers I may break playing Madden 08'!!!!

  **Madden NFL '08 Awesome Game/Review**
Review created: 04/13/08
by:
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

By this point, you’ve probably read countless articles on TeamXbox and other gaming sites talking about how the first few next-gen Madden titles didn’t [insert tired football analogy here]. It’s not like the games were bad or anything, it was just that they weren’t up to our lofty expectations. Before out first demo of this year’s game, many of my fellow editors and I were all ready to dump a cooler full of Haterade on it. However, even at that early stage, we had a feeling that we were finally seeing the game that we had been waiting on for 3 years. The only question was whether or not the team at Tiburon could follow through and give us what we wanted. Let’s find out if they did, shall we?

While some people care more about stuff like the Franchise and Owner modes, this editor is all about heading onto the field for some action between the lines. It’s here where Madden NFL 08 truly shines, as it offers the best action we’ve ever seen in a football game. Thanks in part to the new Hit Stick 2.0 (which allows you to tackle a ballcarrier either high or low), you’ll be able to dish out some absolutely brutal hits, and there will actually be moments when you wince after your star RB crumples to the ground. On the offensive side, your wideouts and tight ends will realistically twist their bodies to reach for thrown balls and will drag their toes if making a catch while falling out of bounds. All told, this game features some stellar animations that, while not always noticeable, help to make the proceedings feel much more authentic.

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2007 Super Bowl Champions!

For the most part, the on-field controls haven’t changed very much, aside from a few new mechanics like the ball strip and “hurdle control” which is implemented by, you guessed it, hitting the hurdle button. However, if you’re one of those players that know the difference between a hot route and a Hot Pocket, you’ll be happy to learn that there are a number of new mechanics that give you great control over your team. On the defensive side of the ball, you can now “spotlight” receivers, which makes it easier to shutdown superstar wideouts. Beware though, as that will usually leave another guy open.

The biggest new gameplay mechanic is the Weapon system, which is a great way to make star players stand out from the benchwarmers. There are a bunch of different categories that player can fall into, and they'll excel in those particular areas. Rather than giving the player super powers that can be used or some nonsense like that, they are simply better than their peers. For instance, Randy Moss will leap higher than an average player, Rodney Harrison will hit harder, and Lawrence Maroney can lower his shoulder to power through tackles. The only exceptions are the ones that allow QBs to occasionally read a defense and linebackers to see what play is coming, but you (thankfully) won't be able to use those very often. It's a great system, one that we hope makes it into future games.

Superstar mode has returned in Madden 08, and the developers have obviously taken some of the criticisms leveled at them from fans to heart. You’ll now be able to take control of one of the studs in this year’s rookie class in an attempt to turn him into a Hall of Fame caliber player. Unfortunately, there’s no “embarrassing web photo” minigame for all of the wannabe Brady Quinns out there, though we’re hopeful that it’ll appear in next year’s iteration.
Overal Rating: Perfect 10/10

Madden 2008 gets XBOX 360 right this year
Review created: 08/18/07

Graphics: Excellent 9/10
The graphics are very well done and they are sharp. You can tell that this game moves at 60 frames per second (FPS) when it goes from close to far shots.

Sound: Great – 8.5/10
The commentary is well done, but having ESPN radio as a live feed is the ultimate bonus. You will feel that you are watching / involved in a pro game. The commentary is not as good as NCAA 2008, but they have the College Gameday Crew.

Gameplay: Great – 9/10
Smooth animations, large playbooks, multiple and deep one player modes – this game has really improved from last year.

Replay Value – Above Average 9.5/10
This is a great football game. The multiplayer alone gives it a high replay value (though a bit choppy online), but the single player experience is there to keep you coming back to take your team to the Superbowl again and again.

Overall – 9/10
This edition of Madden Football by EA is a drastic improvement over the last two years outings. With additions such as “Super-Sim”, this game is a great addition to an XBOX 360 owner’s catalog.

Since EA has the NFL rights locked up, a player does not have much choice - but it is a good thing that this game is really well done and is leaps and bound better than the previous two XBOX 360 Madden games. With plenty of single player options, newly added player attributes, family mode, additional gameplay modes, and the online capabilities of the 360, this game will keep you coming back for more. The smooth gameplay and 60 FPS make this the better football choice for those of you that have both the PS3 and the 360. This game is deep, and it will keep you deep. The achievements are all gameplay based, which is a bonus for those individuals that are not on XBOX Live. This game comes highly recommended.

I dont like this game. The presentation is to flashy the sound sucks, and you fumble way to much. I fumbled 4 times in the first quarter with sunny conditions. The game doesnt seem to have as much control as ALl PRO 2k8, and the players seem small. If you want a game because of game modes and the nfl license then this is the choice for you. IF you want a football game with authentic gameplay then get all pro 2k8.

It is a good game. Not Amazing.
Review created: 11/18/07

It seems like EA has a hard time figuring out what to change every year with this game. There really isn't much difference besides the roster change. The game is fun for what it is. But all Madden games are fun. It just seems repetitive. Graphics are good, again, not amazing.

Out of 5 (5 being amazing)

Playability: 5
Graphics: 3
Controls: 5
Audio: 3
Story: N/A

Overall, it is a good game to play with a group of friends during football season. But just like any other sport games, not much changes besides rosters. I gave audio a 3 because all the songs get repetitive after the first 4 times you turn on the game.

If you are a big football fan and like some smashmouth, aggressive hitting, this game is really worth buying.

Madden NFL 08 - BEST YET
Review created: 09/12/07
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Pros: The AI is much improved in this version. In my opinion, this makes playing the game more enjoyable that in previous versions. Most players can figure out the older AI's and pretty much score at will. It's not as easy to do that now.

Cons: Not much seems to have changed from '07. Price > $55 for an upgrade game is a little stiff - but I still paid it and am (somewhat) happy with the decision.

A Step in the Right Direction
Review created: 08/23/07
by:
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

While the Madden series has been nothing to write home about since they received (or dare I say stole) the rights to NFL licensing, Madden has taken a step forward with Madden 08. Adding some innovative features such as the Weapon System, where players are considered weapons (sort of like Gamebreakers in the old NCAA series) and bringing back true franchise management (ever want to move the Browns to Puerto Rico? Here's your chance!) has truly made Madden a truly great game again.

The 360 version is clearly superior to the PS3 version due to blazing fast frame rates (which are considerably slower on the PS3).

4/5

First time Madden buyer, love it! Great plays, moves, visual effects, and for a cheap price. Plays are realistic, definately can bring your friends over for an awesome time. Easy for the beginning Rookie, while definately a NFL challenge for the ALL-STAR. Tutorials, practices, mini-game stuff you can do. Compared to GameDay its definately better!

Well, I expected to buy NFL Madden 08 for only $9.00 (a deal in itself). Before the auction was over the seller offered me madden nfl 09 because of a problem with the disk for the same price as my bid, or a full refund. I accepted the madden 09 (retail $60.00) and the seller shipped it very quickly. Best deal ever on ebay. This Seller is a Honest, friendly seller, and is highly recommended. I have dealt with many sellers in my long ebay career, and I can say without hyperbole... this is the best seller on ebay. Thanks!

Love football and love Madden. I love buying Madden a year late, because you can get it for like 5 bucks and it is not that different from the latest version. The graphics in 08 are really crisp, the gameplay is smooth and realistic. Always happy with this franchise and they have done it again with '08.
