Very rarely are truth-telling books great reads; but, this one is, by the US Junior Senator Barack Obama. Many believe that this Senator would make a good Vice Presidential or Presidential candidate in 2008. If you are one among them, this book will solidify your belief. If you are not convinced that A Junior US Senator or a man of color has got what it takes to be elected to one of those intelligence and conviction requiring offices, then this text should sway you. Sen. Obama speaks directly and forthrightly, which in and of itself is refreshing, about his insights into American culture. Pointedly with the acumen of a senior US official, Obama's "Audacity" speaks necessary truths about the US. I nodded in agreement with Sen. Obama throughout his text. He's a good writer who shows he's more of an older wiser man than his physical appearance. I'd call this his 'campaign book'. Review ID: 10000000002376167 Was this review helpful? At the same time the title of his book caught my attention as hope is hard to find these days. Mr. Obama is very articulate and thoughtful in his presentation. He takes you from the campaign trail in Illinois to the US Senate with many down to earth observations along the way. He really makes you feel like he understands the problems of the day, of the people he represents, and these problems relate in the big picture. If you hate politics and everything about politics this will be a tough read. This book does go beyond the politics from time to time and the underlying message is worth your time. I recently purchased the book, "The Audacity of Hope" by Barak Obama and it is one of the best political books ever written. I particularly like the way he reminisces about his childhood and all the diversity in his family. It shows the common man theme throughout. He makes you believe he is "one of the people"; which allows you to believe what he says as truth. He has a great idea of a future democracy that is based on the original ideas of our founding fathers. This book was purchased as a gift and since getting it three of our family and friends have requested information on where to get it. Some have even called dibs on reading it after we finished it. Barak Obama is the 21st century FDR. He wants to do away with racism and sterotyping and economic classification. He has great ideas and I hope he will be successful in his endeavor to make America a better place for our children and grandchildren. My favorite thing that he practices is every day he asks himself and his family "How can I be of service to someone today?" "How can I make life easier or better for someone else?". If we all thought like that the world would indeed be a better place. I highly recommend this book! Review ID: 10000000002591812 Was this review helpful? Obama's memoirs and identity carries leadership in our country as president. Books pre politic views are strong self intelectual, he never strides from his positive or negative issues. Obama's political views in chapter four talks about the welfare of this country. Reclaiming the American dream, his passion in this book, his high priority, his thoughts on school systems can best be discribed as impressive. Obama's insights on Washington house & senate, childrens welfare and literacy. The Audacity of Hope observes originality and an outlook of the American worker, free trade agreement, renewable energy & a message about our current America. Obama reaches a new hope to read about and maybe the first time to think for a moment. There's nothing wrong with that, to set back and think. I rated book 5*****, President Obama has plain vision and sometimes simple writing is clear writing. Review ID: 10000000012001500 Was this review helpful? I'm almost finished with the book and have enjoyed reading it so far. Sen. Obama's idealism is finely tempered with realism and has many good ideas for government. I had a friend of mine who is an expert on autographs look at the two up for auction and he informed that autograph was truely Obama. I felt that Barack Obama just might become our next head of the free county. I found the book to be most exciting. I met Obama a little over a year ago and was very impressed with him. So it made since that I read the book. It was a life story and and a current on how he feels about this country. I would recommend anyone to pick up Obama book to just get a good idea of someone elses view. You know JF Kennedy was the only other president that only held a one term as a Senator and then became one of our most outstanding President in history. Read this Book and if you can get an autographed copy and put if away. If he is not going to become President this next election you can be sure he will before long. It really goes into Mr. Obama's political views, but more importantly it gives you a glimpse into his personal life. At times you feel frustrated by all the things that he mentions that are going on but at times you have to smile when he talks about his children and wife; showing you the compasionate side of this great man. I must have read it in a week. Review ID: 10000000003684275 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 02/11/07 by: 2 of 4 people found this review helpful. I have to be honest the initial reason that I purchased this book was because I saw Barack Obama on an episode of the Oprah Show--and after that I was definitely curious! And I am so glad that I was, this book was a very creative way of putting one's workings of the mind into a narrative form of upliftment and potential! I would definitely recommend this book purchase! And although the account is a little long, it is worth every minute of page-turning. Review ID: 10000000002968542 Was this review helpful? Having read the book, both are reinforced. He not only speaks the truth, but says things in such a way as to enlighten the readers and make them see things they might not have thought of before. Everyone should read this book. If I had my way it would be required reading!! Whether he is ever a presidential candidate or not (and I hope he is), this man gives all of us hope for the future of a better country, one run by people at the top who can actually talk, but also walk the walk!! Senator Barack Obama eloquently gives cause and explanation for what he believes and why he believes it. In his book, Obama then lays out the plans he has to implement his hopes for our nation. No sound bites. No twisted campaign promises. This book gives its readers the full story of Obama's potential impact if he is given the opportunity to put his plan in place. A very good accounting of Obama's perception of politics in Washington, how Washington impacts everyday Americans, and of how the system can be changed for the better. I don't agree with the liberal/socialist solutions and view on political history. But the book does help motivate me to get more involved in politics. Several interpretation errors as well as smoothing over of liberal mistakes over the decades. Nobody could argue with the problems that minorities and poor people have had in the USA, but the cure is NOT socialism, it is meritocracy with a level playing field. Read it anyway, you'll enjoy it. The value of this earlier publication book will jump substantially after the election $$$$$$$$$$$$. Obama will be held bound to the statements and pronouncements of this issue. Some portions that are prophetic in nature will be referred to in future history and evaluations of this and all candidates prior, during, and forever after the election. I bought The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama for a closer examination of one of our Democratic candidates. I was not disappointed. This is an excellent book. If you want a better idea of Obama’s views this is the book to read, it is not an autobiography. It’s broke into 9 chapters: 1. Republicans and Democrats, 2. Values, 3. Our Constitution, 4. Politics, 5. Opportunity, 6. Faith, 7. Race, 8. The World Beyond Our Borders, 9. Family. Every chapter is well thought out and an interesting read. It shows Obama is a very intelligent and socially responsible individual, capable of seeing the world for what it is with the ability of seeing the issues from more than just his own perspective. I thought the chapter on Our Constitution was particularly moving. I highly recommend this book. Review ID: 10000000005695261 Was this review helpful? I decided to buy this book because Barack Obama is a candidate (presently for the Democratic nomination) for President of the United States. This book is well-written and gives insight into Obama's thinking processes relating to the political process. I found the book inspiring and recommend it highly to anyone who is considering voting for Obama or for his opponents. Review ID: 10000000005328078 Was this review helpful? This book is very well written, he is an excellent wordsmith, although at times a bit wordy. Being a democrat, I of course agree with most of his politics, but I don't think you need to be a democrat to get his point. He is very friendly in his writing and he doesn't attack the Republicans directly. He is optimistic about America's future - perhaps more optimistic than I. Of course, I believe his optimism will wane if the Republicans win the next election! Review ID: 10000000003528988 Was this review helpful? The first chapter, Republicans and Democrats, rambled a bit but the rest of the book was well written. This book helped me understand Barack Obama's views which will help me decide whether to vote for him. He seems to have a fresh perspective which I believe is very much needed in our current situation. I'm not sure that he has a great solution to our involvement in Iraq but I'm not quite sure that anyone does. He presented some good ideas on education and health care in our country. This book was definitely worth the read. Review ID: 10000000003516678 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 03/03/07 by: 1 of 4 people found this review helpful.
