I also have my daughter hooked on them as well. Mr Hobbs Takes a Vacation is a great movie about the trials between parents and their children, those who are still at home as well as those who are not at home. Jimmy Stewart and Maureen O'Hara are wonderful in this movie. The story is told through the eyes of Jimmy Stewart after they get back from the vacation, so you hear him narrating the story as you watch. If you like older movies give this one a try, You should not be disappointed. Review ID: 10000000010640839 Was this review helpful? Report this review 1 of 1 people found this review helpful. Jimmy Stewart and Maureen O'Hara were expertly cast in their roles as caring parents of children ranging in age from fully grown, married and with children of their own - to a pre-teen and new-teen. When they take a beach vacation with the entire family (including the grandchildren) - the fun begins! Classically funny humor that will have you and your kids laughing out loud! This has an excellent cast, I love Jimmy Stewart and typically love any movie that he is in. However, I do not like movies where people bicker all the time. This movie is about a worn out executive that is tired of vacationing with his family. They certainly do go through the dreaded extended family gatherings of which we all are too aware. I never have been fond of any comedy that uses arguing as a main focal point for the movie. Review ID: 10000000001431331 Was this review helpful? Everything goes, well...until he has to prime the water pump. Then there is the dance. And his Daughter and her marriage is falling apart. Every day life seems to close in closer and closer on Hobbs. A vacation that is too put you at rest, seems like you can never get away from your problems. Mr. Hobbs, fairs well through the stormy waters of life. A fantastic family film. Jimmy Stewart and Maureen O'Hare are uniquely matched in this film as husband and wife, coping with their children and the unique cureves life throws at us all. It is great for baby boomers because it takes you back to a better time of life and brings back many great memories of how it used to be. Every age will enjoy this movie. Thanks to his family, Mr. Hobbs's (James Stewart) life is about to get a lot more irritating. His insistent wife, Peggy, convinces the fussy Midwest banker to pack up the kids and head for the Pacific shore for a summer vacation. In addition to their four children, the Hobbses also bring along their two married daughters' husbands and two grandchildren. They arrive at a spooky cottage equipped with a mousetrap-like water pump. Then things turn worse. One daughter's egghead spouse splits. The other's horny hubby starts flirting with a babe on the beach. The youngest daughter has an inferiority complex due to her braces, and Hobbs' son thinks Dad's a dork. Eventually Hobbs quits complaining about his clan and realizes Peggy's homilies about familial togetherness actually make sense. Review ID: 10000000011240655 Was this review helpful? Report this review I decided to buy this movie because I caught it on TV one weekday morning and I really enjoyed it and wanted my family to watch. My teenagers got a kick out of the way the teenagers in the movie acted. I like the movie because it shows that now matter what the era we are in families are going to have their ups and downs but you are still family. Review ID: 10000000002585904 Was this review helpful? Report this review A classic 60's comedy that the whole family can watch. Jimmy Stewart underplays the similar role that Chevy Chase portrayed many years later as the Dad in National Lampoon's Vacation. If anything can go wrong for Dad, it does. Maureen O'Hara plays the wife, and even Fabian makes an appearance. I was glad to find this old favorite on DVD. Review ID: 10000000002500823 Was this review helpful?
