This film is informative, instructional and gives some background and details of the Islamic faith. Before people condemn others for their beliefs, they should see this DVD. All of my children have seen this DVD and learned about Islam. Well done documentary. Review ID: 10000000001077453 Was this review helpful? Report this review 5 of 5 people found this review helpful. Touching on how a single faith could inspire scientific exploration of the physical universe and at the same time to have the weight to change the hearts of people through out the world. How one message would spark the birth of an empire that would grow to over shadow any empires before it or those that followed it. A great introduction into what Islam really teaches and how it even helped shape the Wests approach to social law and good manners. Great for spiritual awareness and education. Breathtakingly done, Islam:Empire of Faith addresses one of the most underrated periods in our world History, the age of the Ottomans and the contribution of the Islamic era to world history. Narrated by Ben Kingsley, This documentary is objective in its coverage of the history of Islam and the Empire that rose after its inception and covers the contributions it made to today's world. An excellent addition to the PBS Empires series, this is one you will not want to miss! Review ID: 10000000004409419 Was this review helpful? The tone and emphasis on Islam taken for this video is refreshing and difficult to find in a post 9/11 television program. Neither apologetic or critical the documentary shows the beginnings and difficulties the religion had in its early years, as well as the impressive leaps forward and immense contributions the followers of this faith brought to the region and the world. I am just amazed at what Americans don't know about The roots of this faith. It has such a long and intricate history, it needs to be explored. Most of the World is Muslim, we should know the reason. Not all of Islam is out to get us, it is peaceful in it's nature. We have some fanatics over on our side too, if you haven't noticed. Highly Recommended!! Helped me understand this part of history (which we have not been taught, intentionally or not) and appreciate Islam and its people as the founders of modern science and tolerance towards other religions. I wish every American would get a chance to watch it. Review ID: 10000000004956099 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 05/01/09 by: It was for a college paper. It really didn't matter if I liked the movie or not, I was just required to write a two page report on the movie. The ordering process was very easy, and I received my movie in excellent condition in just a matter of a few days. I was very pleased of the time frame of which I received my movie. Good for educational purposes, although it is a bit biased at the end during the discussions of the Ottomans. And the film does not at all fairly present the Safavids nor the dozens of other eastern Muslim domains. Review ID: 10000000011237737 Was this review helpful? Report this review Notwithstanding the possibility of being misled due to the relative obscurity of the subject in the eyes of non-Muslims, on the one hand, and, on the other, centuries of mistrust and prejudice, the viewer will at least receive a fairly powerful insight into the advent and impact of the Islamic Dispensation on the history of mankind. The production itself is beautifully executed, commentary is deliberate and fairly easy to understand covering the historical period of the first three centuries of the Islamic Faith and the basics of the Teachings of Muhammad and those Imams Who followed Him. This production could be said to be the first major production focusing on the Prophet Muhammad and the inception of His religion ever seen by Western eyes. As a pioneering effort, then, the film is worth the viewing. Review ID: 10000000009103061 Was this review helpful? Report this review 0 of 1 people found this review helpful. I am sorry to write this, but you urged me to do so. I sent you tons of e-mails saying that I did not receive the item but no one replies and I received nothing. I am sorry to say that if I did not receive my DVD at all given the fact that you took the money, this will be the last time I buy something from you and from ebay.
