BUT EVEN TODAY, THE MELODY AND THE WORDS ARE GREAT. Review ID: 10000000010780601 Was this review helpful? Report this review I was never really a Mellencamp fan. I thought the old nemesis "Cougar" days were contrived material. However, at the first Farm Aid concert, I developed a respect for the man and what he was trying to do musically. It lead me to actually purchasing the "Scarecrow" album. Having grown up and still living in the rural midwest, I found the album to be some quasi masterpiece that struck me deeply. Follow ups never quite captured that urgency for me. Until this release. On first listen, you instantly recognize the Mellencamp sound. Some may think he has nothing to say with so many similar sounding albums. I think it is more knowing where he fits in. He has crafted a sound that gives voice to the emotions he needs to share. A lot of ground is covered on this album. From race relations and our responsibility as Christians. Homeless fears, Tragic senseless violence, Redemption, Unrequited love, and men wearing women's shoes. This is the total package, life is covered thoroughly on this album. You might miss it all in a casual listen. Give it a few more spins and pay attention. You owe it to yourself. Robin F. DeLage Review ID: 10000000005650223 Was this review helpful?
